Would be interesting to get people's takes on this.
Does anyone else feel like their life revolves around their work? Work to live or live to work?

Its because the work week is too long. You work from 9-5 but there's commute time and time to get ready in the morning, which eats into your day. By the time you get home and settled, you only have a few hours for yourself before you have to go to bed and do it all over again in the morning. I'd hazard to guess that work and work-related activities make up at least 10-12 hours a day, so you're either gonna lose sleep or lose your "me-time", depending on which you value more. We really need to shorten the work week to something more manageable for people to have a healthy balance in their lives.
I'm a 911 Operator/ Police dispatcher. Our shifts are 06-18 or 18-06. I have nearly an hour commute each way. So on work days its: work, eat sleep. Repeat. I can work as many as 4 shifts in a row.
I cherish my days off, especially as spring/summer/fall arrive.
The shift work does have advantages. Such ad days off midweek. Golf courses are not as busy. Grocery stores are not that busy...
I used to feel like that, but I started regulating my hours, allowing me time for my life outside of work. At 5 PM my phone goes off and I dont bring work home with me anymore, I also make a point not to bring work home with me mentally. Weekends I spend time with family and friends and do the things I enjoy! Weekday evenings I try cook something new every night, exercise and watch series or movies or just listen to music and I've been so much happier since then...
You will always feel that way when you are living paycheck-to-paycheck, and you're not really enjoying the kind of life and career you have. You want to follow your passion, but you also got to be realistic and generate income. So unless you an entrepreneur 9 out of 10 times you all working to live, and you do live to work. But at the same time, like the Bible says. You don't work, you don't eat.
Well ok it sounds like you should be thinking about what else you have going on in your life?
Does my life revolve around work? Well to some degree yes. Does it define me? Partially yes but not completely. I work a lot. I still have time for family and friends and hobby type distractions and travel.

I gave up my corporate job which I worked 80 hours a week and traveled the USA. Dont' get me wrong.. ton of money and perks but I gave it all up to be a coach. I took up minimalism and now live a frugal life pursing my passion. Minimalism is the key and saved my ass from my life passing me by year after year. So much more happier.
Yeah I’ve felt that before now too. Each person has to choose what’s right for them, we’re not all the same. Some people define themselves by their careers, others define themselves by their family and being a Mum or Dad etc. It’s completely individual. No rights or wrongs. It’s simply what feels right to you, and hat can change, so just go with what you feel you should.
It consumes so much of my day, mental and physical energy, for not the greatest pay. My job is rewarding but I have a family and that's more important to me than a career. I do have to work to support my family.
I don't have a job at the moment, but I've begun to realize that we're on this earth to only work and pay taxes. We're not supposed to have fun
Yea me too from 21-25 all I did was work but now at 26 I am trying to cut that down and enjoy life. Just try to put your self 1st sometimes because there is no job security anymore so all you have is your self
No, not really. Some days I don't even go to work, I just employ people to do the work for me. I still get paid either way, just nowhere near as much.
Yeah..
But I'm stubborn... sometimes I just pretend to work for healthy purposes...
Yes and there is no life after work as I'm to tired for anything else.
Even, if I manage to get vacations it is for doing some stuff that is long overdue at home.
No. I love my job but it definitely doesn't define me. I'm more than my career.
Pretty much. I'll retire and drop dead shortly after, lol.
You have no value in your life. It's time you made your own business.
It's normal especially in corporate America
Work to live
