Work to live- You just see your job as just that a job. It's something you do because you need money to live.

Live to work- You absolutely love your job and love what you do. Going to your job is pleasurable and fun. You don't consider it work.

Nowadays unless you are a billionaire, millionaire or managed to inherit a substantial amount of money where you don’t have to worry about anything you have to work to live. On the flip side if you live to work are you really living? I don’t think so.

Live to work. I have to work. There's a very thin line separating me between bum and a productive citizen, and that doesn't get any wider no matter how much I get paid. I have to work. It's very important. I'm the type to rot away if I don't.

I'm legit the type who will work as a burger flipper even if I'm a billionaire if I can't get any other job. I have to do it even when money doesn't matter at all. I need something to do that way as much as I love my hobbies. It might be an Asian thing. Growing up with a very strict Asian family on my father's side, I got accustomed and even dependent on feeling like I need to work every day to earn my upkeep.

I am very lazy though and procrastinate all the day. Don't get me wrong! But I need to work. I'm not the type who, with unlimited free time, will make good use of it. I need other people to count on me. I need some structure in my life that isn't something of my own design.

That's good. Not a lot of people are like that in the U. S. though. Maybe we need to be more like you though. I know I work to live. My passion is writing but I don't get to do that because it doesn't pay the bills. If it did then it would certainly be live to work.

I think some balance might be ideal. But we do adjust our mindset a lot in Japan which might be better suited for a community even if it's not ideal for the individual like if I'm gonna be a waiter at a restaurant, I'm gonna be the best waiter ever! And we don't have a tipping culture here so we will be paid the same regardless. There is just a sense that work is very meaningful regardless of what it is and that we should master it.

I don't love my work, but I do like it... I love that it gives me time, flexibility and means, to spend more time with the ones I love in my life

and it is not that I "need" to work but I do need to do something as work, lol... I don't like to have much free time with "nothing to do"

I'm the lucky one, as I do at work what I love...

but I wouldn't say I live to work. Software engineering is one of many of my passions... and I split my week between all of them...

That's a complicated question. I used to work to live. Now I have enough assets that now I live to work. But that's only because I love what I do now. I do it with the knowledge that I can quit anytime. And that makes it truly enjoyable because it's on my terms now. Most don't even refer to what a do as work.

It's a job, it's a career, it pays the mortgage and funds a wife and children. I strive to keep it viable because I need the income. If a rich uncle leaves me a million inheritance, I would not need the job anymore.
