It all depends on what kind of background check they are conducting. Many employers when running checks are looking at criminal history and a credit check. However, some employers do run an employment check. In order for them to do that, you would have had to provide them your employers over the last several years, and they could simply call and verify that information. I don’t know employers who count the number of jobs against a person, but as someone who has interviewed a lot of people, I would have asked about jobs you had for a short period of time. If your resume was full of jobs you held for less than a year, I might not have hired you, as I would fear you’d leave my company in the same short period of time. That said, I wouldn’t worry too much about the background check. Good luck!

It will tell them many things, but usually criminal check and things like this. Make sure you've never been arrested, etc. Your employment history they will already see from your resume. But don't worry about this. If they are concerned about it, they'll question you about it in the interview. Why you left them etc. Depending on the answers you give them, they may choose not to hire you, but it depends, it doesn't automatically eliminate you. Example, "why did you leave your last job?", "because my boss was an asshole!" LOL, that won't work in your favor.
All employers have at their discretion who they wish to hire, and certainly any prospective candidate who has a long list of previous jobs does not give any confidence in offering employment.
