Are all mechanics liars and crooks?

My mechanic is persistent on having all 4 of my tires replaced, plus having the axles fixed which he CLAIMS are worn out. And he's charging me $2000 for all of it and wants to keep the car for 3 days.

One weakened tire to be replaced for $300 in the spam of 2 hours turns into $2000 for all 4 tires and worn out axles all of a sudden. And the car to be kept for 3 days!

I have a reliable mechanic who could change all types within 2 to 3 hours depending on the number of cars he is currently servicing.

Yes, as suggested by others, drive around and ask around.

Go to places where competition is strong (like 3 to 5 shops within 1km radius)

No need to be shy to ask for quotation and then say "let me consider" then driven off.

Finally, regarding tyres, you need not change all four. Hence watch some videos to learn how to check if a tyre need to be changed.

PS: the condition could be good. But if the date has expired, it's good to change to avoid it puncture on the road. It costs more to get a toll.

No, most people are idiots and know nothing about vehicles and frequently neglect maintenance, especially preventative maintenance.

Not sure why they’d need to keep it there before they can work on it, but I also feel like we’re missing part of the story here

There are shady ones yes but personally go get a different opinion that's what I always do. But mostly most mechanics are honest cause they can get in big trouble trying to lie. Especially if they think you dont know your stuff
