Is it worth learning any language other than English?

Hi,

I've been trying to be fluent at English, and I have not studied any other language till now. I decided to learn Russian, and actually I already started. However, one of my friends told me that I should have learnt something useful rather than Russian. I'm a bit confused honestly. Have I been putting effort in something that is not worth it? Should I master English instead of trying to learn other things? Could you guide me through this issue?

Prior to Ukraine, Turkey and Russia did a lot of business and many Russian tourists visited Istanbul (I remember many signs in shops which were printed in the Russian language). The problem with Russian is learning another alphabet; although Cyrillic is not that difficult to master. The plus is that once you learn Russian you can make yourself understood in nearly any Slavic nation: neighboring Bulgaria to name one.

Due to Turkey's location, Arabic would seem to be good choice, as well as Iranian (Farsi). If you plan to work overseas, then you'll need to have a solid grasp of English.

You need to start learning Mandarin. In Thailand both English and Mandarin are required. They live next door to Chins, therefore, I’m following their lead.

I'm a native of Turkish. Frankly, I don't have any plan to use Russian. The only language I need is English, but I thought it would be a difference.

I'd stick with Russian. Putins days are numbered and when he's gone Russia will be keen to rebuild business relationships

@purplepoppy This makes sense actually :D I'll not pay more attention to Russian than English, but I'll keep studying it consistently. What I dream is to be better at English eventually :/
