Tips for a new teacher?

okay- I teach at a small college. I was an IT professional for over 20 years and answered an ad for a Computer Science professor. I had a lot of real world experience but not much classroom experience.
I was unsure of myself at first. I got through half the lecture and saw that I was losing everyone' interest. I just stopped and asked the students some background information about their level of expertise and what they expected to get out of the class. I played to my strengths which was experience so I tried to bring real world stories that had something to do with what material from the text I was going through. I relied heavily on the text especially at first.
You have to become comfortable with the material. There is no faking it for long. Learn about grammar.
You're welcome!
Just make the course interactive and interesting as possible. And just own any mistakes made and then just like use them as examples of how not repeat them and just make the course fun. And before you know it you will be the teacher every student at the school is desperate to learn under.
Here is def not help with grammar..😂… but if this real. A lesson plan is difficult im sure. I have to build a plan at my work but it’s diff. I jus start with a goal… and then I pic like 5 dif hurtles I have… an incorporate into it. Then define those etc. it jus falls into place. Bottom line is use ur past experience with learning composition.
Good luck. 🎀 we need teachers that can explain from experience and not jus telling us this is what u do. Empathy is a tool I use when dealing with problems at work.
Ummm…I think you need to give yourself sometime to adjust. Feel free to get advice from other teachers, on how to teach the class.
i have been bothering everyone for tips. but somehow nothing is getting through to my head. Like it's tense i was supposed to teach. I was blanking out so much. I was so energetic before the class but the disappointment really made my anxiety kick in hard.
that's useful. do you think it'll not be frowned upon if im looking at my notepad? I mean is that a normal thing?

Talk to another teacher about your feelings. They probably felt the same way when they started. It's seems normal to be anxious as a new teacher.
I actually did, and it does help. THank you!
It's not easy to get up in front of a class, but it gets easier over time. Work on building a rapport with your students.
some of them were laughing among themselves, and the girl on the front was clearly rolling her eyes. I know it's not easy specially for me with social anxiety.
I hope so. this is unlike anything I've ever faced before. I just hope they dont think I'm dumb or something based on the first impression
I almost cried when I went to my room. Dreading tomorrow.
it's a good idea. it's because it's the first class so I got lost because none of them wanted to have a class on their orientation day and didn't bring pen and papers. So my plans couldn;t go through. I have to take the same introduction with another department tomorrow
Nothing to be embarrassed or ashamed about. Be really say ya I am bit nervous like anyone at any job when you are new.
Clearly are skilled to get job so have faith in yourself you will do fine
I said that, now i feel like it was wrong to reveal that i am actually nervous. im feeling so anxious
No you where being real. Plus people can tell of you're nervous because its natural we all go true it
Thank you 🙂
