I just failed student teaching...? please help

I just failed student teaching and won't be given another opportunity because my university feels like I have too much to work on. I had to re-take a pre-student teaching placement.

I don't want to be a classroom teachiner but a special education, speech or someone who workds with small groups. My coop didn't even want a student teacher and that didn't help at all. but I admit it was my short coming and I got distracted.

Now I have been in college for 5 years and no where close to getting a degree. What do I do? I feel like such a loser right now. I almost feel like there aren't too many more reasons for me to live. Please help I have no idea what to do.

I almost seriously quit a post college program a few months ago but basically am still in it after time off! So I know the feeling! You feel like everyone else has it figured out and you are alone with your troubles! But that's not true! So many people feel lost and look at all that you have accomplished! Back when all this was happening I got a fortune cookie at a Chinese restaurant that said "you're never a loser until you quit trying." so simple but so true. You're certainly not stupid! You made it through that much school! There are always people in the world that are better at something than us and some that are worse but really we all have different talents. I mean look at Einstein or Copernicus...they didn't give up despite failure or pressure. And bill gates for a modern example lol...he left Harvard and took a chance with Microsoft and look where he is.There's so much more to life than this. I try to remember sometimes when I'm in the dumps that at least I have certain things going for me...I have my arms and legs. I am not starving or dying of thirst. The rest of it is just there...you'll recover I promise! Don't lose hope!

This can be a painful lesson. People sometimes get used to being able to skate through things or allow themselves to lose focus, and figure that "it will all work out." Well, sometimes it doesn't, and you don't always get a second chance. The lesson is that you have to work hard and give a real effort if you expect to succeed. The problem here isn't that you lack the ABILITY, which would suck and mean that there's no hope. Instead, you lacked focus and drive, and those things ARE fixable.

You need to do some REAL thinking and figure out what you REALLY want and how badly you want it. And be realistic - no daydreaming of the "ideal future", these thoughts need to be grounded in reality.

No one is going to GIVE you anything in life, you have to GO GET IT and EARN IT. It's too bad you didn't learn that lesson earlier in life, but you can learn it now and still make things happen. Many of the most successful people had SERIOUS setbacks in their life, but those only made them smarter, tougher, and more determined to succeed. How will YOU handle it?

This is well said. I have already had many set backs 5 years in college. I finally thought I was getting to the end. Now I am eithier going to have another serious set back or not given another chance at all.

I'm up to my 7th year doing a 4.5 year teaching course. I did two majors my first year when I was meant to do 1 (had no idea what a major was). Went to an exam on the wrong day (thought they were in class time). Let me start my masters when I didn't realise I had a subject left to do on my BA (didn't have correct amount of unit numbers). Etc. I don't want to be a teacher anymore but I've wasted 7 years of my life if I do. Uni has made me hold off working towards a house, having children, and until recently, getting married. It has given me depression and major anxiety and there was some times when I thought I couldn't go on. But you have to look to the future and see the end of university is nearly here.

I have the same problem. I failed my placement in my final semester of my 4.5 year course. I’ve been at university for 6.5 years trying to finish it since I have to pay all the fees. May as well get the certificate even though teaching is a nightmare for me and I hate it. I’m going to be doing placement again soon. I feel exactly the same way, like it’s a waste of your life but you feel trapped I guess. Maybe just finish it then move on, hopefully the certificate will take some time off another course you want to do.

The only loser is someone who quits. If you give yourself a fighting chance every single day, your time will come. That won't happen if you give up.

Are there opportunities at another college? Maybe this area is not right for you. You should try something else. If you can't afford school any longer, quit and find a job.
