Why do I hate being told what to do?

i feel like this has to do with my ego/pride/anything of that sort but I don't know

basically if someone tells me to do something, and I was ALREADY going to do it, I will wait 5-10 minutes before doing it now.

specially with my parents. i just got done with an exam, now my next exam is in 5 days and I've already planned to study 3 days before (two days for rest haha because I'm exhausted with all those all nighters) and yet they keep pestering and scolding me.

It's not uncommon to not want to be treated as a child. When people tell us what we should or shouldn't do, they're saying they believe we're too stupid to know the difference and need to be spoon-fed. You want to grow up and are tired of hearing your parents constantly reminding you that you aren't grown yet.

The more dependent we are prior to adolescence, the more rebellious we tend to be during adolescence. Adolescence is a time to separate from the family and become an individual. How can we do this is we aren't thinking for ourselves? The more we accepted parental spoon-feeding to avoid being judged, the more challenging it is to believe the thoughts in our head are our thoughts and not thoughts we've been indoctrinated with. In order to break away, we often figure out where our parents stand and stand against it... to prove it was our decision. Little do we realize, but that still makes us dependent on our parents to make decisions, as we need to know where they stand to stand to stand against it. We end up like a pendulum, going from one extreme to the other, and (hopefully) eventually find ourselves somewhere in the middle.
