Is this considered a threat?

There was a conversation between my boss and I where my boss called me “mentally ill” and blamed me for some issues going on at work. I told my boss that I was going to report him for what he said to me. My boss then left me a voicemail saying, “Are you sure you want to go down this road? You better watch your back and make sure you have all your facts in order”

The next morning, I walked into the office and my boss stopped me at the doorway and said that there was something wrong with me and that I was mentally insane, and he said “you don’t know who you’re messing with”.

I’m not sure who to report this to because my boss owns the company I (used to) work at.

Would this be considered a threat? Verbal assault?

I would like to press charges, but my state laws are weird.

Are you saying that he fired you? That sure does sound like a threat to me. Do you have proof that he said that to you or was it all verbal? If you have any text messages or voice messages from him save them. Go to the labor department and then to the police department to press charges.

I am not expert and you are an adult capable of your own decision-making. I would consult a workplace attorney before acting. I have a LLC sidekick and if I did that then there would be clear steps that would be followed. Recorded conversation, timeline, etc... long.. long road Best...
