Should threats be taken serious?

I got into an argument with my boyfriend last night because I accused him of cheating. I know it’s not right to accuse anyone without evidence but he does do some odd stuff that reminds me of a guy I used to see (before I found out had a girlfriend) was doing.

I get to his apartment and I don’t see his car. I later find out he’s parked around the block from his apartment. So I thought it was strange and told him this and he gets upset right then. (He said he likes parking right there because less people park there). I also tapped his phone and he snatches it from me saying I'm invading his privacy. He leaves his phone in the house and we go.

As we get in the car, we are still arguing, he tells me twice he’s so mad that he wants to hit me. It's not his first time saying that. I drive him to his car he’s yelling at the top of his lungs, cussing and called me a b****. He takes my purse and digs in it with “now you see how it feels invading privacy” then threatens to throw everything in my purse in the river a cross from us. Later…. He eventually calms down and we talk about what happened. He said he didn’t plan on hitting me but he was mad about me accusing him of cheating.
