What do you think of ruins?

I was dragged to multiple as a kid, but I couldn't be bothered because I was distracted by how hot it was, I always wanted to just go back to the hotel where it was colder. I associated that uncomfortable feeling with ruins, so I never really got into it.
Thinking about it when I did visit castles it wasn't like 30-40 degrees unlike when I visited ruins from the Greeks or Romans, and I enjoyed those!
I'm more interested in the culture, habits, beliefs of times past than their architecture but it's of course very impressive.
I like them, they add to the character of the area. I know things like castles were a symbol of oppression and in other ruins horrible things happened but that was yesterday and we should enjoy them for what they are today.
My degrees are in Structural Engineering and Materials Science, so I'm always fascinated by ruins, or pyramids, or dams, or any sort of structures. What bores many people to death in five minutes, keeps my entertained for hours.
I find them inspiring, and they raise my imagination... about how these buildings were like when still new, about life long past.

I‘ve seen a lot of them. Some are remnants of some excellent engineering feats.
Just look up Tintern Abbey, and you’ll see why some people say that.
They are amazing to see them and know that it took a lot of people to build them and how smart they were
I never saw any actual ruins in person until I was in my mid to late twenties. I love them.
I love ancient history.
Pretty and really interesting.
They’re only interesting if related to Pokémon.
