Question regarding order part numbers?

I recently got a job at a car shop in the stocking and warehouse area. Yesterday was my second day on the job, and I have a good grasp of the job. They have me printing out the shipment labels, stocking parts, looking up parts and selling them, delivering parts to other warehouses, and checking stock. The only thing I need to work on is remembering the order numbers for commonly used products. I asked one co-worker that seemed to know a lot of the numbers, and he told me that there are like millions of numbers so it'd be very difficult to know them all quickly. But he knows the air filters and some car part numbers. For those who know the order numbers themselves or happen to just know the order number. What tips do you have to learn them fast?

Dude, the only way is repetition. I work in the department that fulfills 55 gal oil drums for our customers. It took me 6 months to a year to memorize most of our product numbers. We carry around 100 different product numbers. Just reps reps reps. Don't worry, before you know it it will be like second nature.

Ok thank you, I just felt like I wasn't getting better as an employee over there. But then again, all the employees there have been there since I've been born (02') so not a shocker they know them all. I got a sheet the other day to memorize the department letters for the place. It'll be helpful since I am going back and forth between 2 warehouses for companies.

Sounds like they have you hustling for sure. Have you been trained to drive any of the equipment yet (forklift, pallet jack etc)?

Not yet, but how it looks right now, I think they will possibly train me soon. I hope so that way I can do everything on my own if there isn't an insane amount of work to do.

What type of equipment do they use?

In the warehouse, they use forklifts, Not too sure what the official name is for this equipment but it's like a platform used to lift heavy boxes up to another level. But that's all I have seen so far, maybe there's more that I don't know about.

Typical equipment in warehouses are: forklift (stand up and sit down types), motorized pallet jacks, order pickers (called cherry pickers too) and our facility has stock chasers which are basically glorified golf carts.
