Do you think it matters whether someone reads a book in a day or a month?

It depends.

Some people read a book fast and have nothing intelligent to say about it. I like to take it slow and really contemplate and experience what I'm reading. That said, there are some people who can do all that and get through a book pretty friggen fast.

So I'm not really impressed by that by itself. But if you can read something in a day that took me a month and still have an anylitical, in-depth conversation about it along with your own personal point of view, that's pretty impressive to me.

Its important to finish the book irrespective of how much time you take. A week, a month, several months. It doesn't. What matters is, how much have you gained from reading the book. I read 5-10 pages a day, that too in the morning. If it gets interesting i might read 20 pages and thats it.

I am confused as to why I don't like it when I read I mean I learn but I don't enjoy it I'd rather watch a visual medium like a movie to learn.

Haha. You are just like me. I really don't enjoy it. But i am trying to focus on how it can be important for me in the future. Sometimes you can't really get information from online sources. I actually don't read from the book. I have pdf's in my smartphone, which doesn't make me bored. And i am a beginner. I haven't enjoyed reading, but i know i have to.

In Which areas are you focusing , to gain knowledge?

It doesn't matter. Some people are really good at reading, but they're slow readers. Some people read really fast. If it's not a test all you need to worry about is making sure you understand it. And there also ear reading with audio and people have said it's no different from reading with just your eyes. Me I can't do audio I just read with my eyes. But if it works for people then it's nothing wrong with it.

I have a memory of this task that I was not very good at growing up, it was related to reading.

Because of the belief that i wasn't good at it, to-date I force myself to read more etc.

There's nothing wrong with you. It's good you wanted to read. Most people don't even care to open a book nowadays. You should treasure your books and ability to read and encourage your children to do the same without shaming or guilting them.

I feel less smart if I don't finish the book in a day, this is the real problem.

And what often happens, more than not, is i don't finish the book at all, because of this line of thinking

It's very unlikely to finish a book in a day, but you can set some goals for reading pages per day or per week, I think it would get you going

I have a goal right now to read 20 pages per day is that too little? Even that feels like a lot.

No, it's good, don't try to overcome what you can do now, feel overwhelmed and give up, it's better to start slow and increase over time
