Why do foreigners insist they know more about the US than those who actually live here?

You are not alone. I am Turkish. Whenever I tell europeans or americans (westerners generally to be exact) that I am Turkish , I get questions regarding so called armenian genocide, kurdish issue or erdogan. If I dont accept armenian genocide or dont agree with kurdish seperatists, they accuse me as an erdogan supporter as if only opposition in Turkey are ethnic minority parties. They have zero clue about Turkish politics. In reality I hate both erdogan and kurdish seperatist equally. I am literally kemalist, a secular Turkish nationalist. There is no way for me to find a common ground with both of them.

On the other hand there are arabs, paki, afghans. Those are worse than europeans or americans and very uncivilized. Those idiots are obsessed with Turks and Ottoman empire for some reason and whenever they notice that I am Turkish, they start to praise me Ottoman empire and Erdogans current neo ottomanist policies.

As I said I am a Turkish nationalist. Most people dont know but we Turkish nationalist especially secular nationalists like me absolutely hate Ottoman empire. We absolutely oppose a unity based on religion such as the one in ottoman era. We hate every kind of monarchy , we hate sharia laws etc. . We are fond of freedoms, human rights , democracy and hated every single day of us within ottoman empire back then and dont want it back. We are all for national ethnic states, democracy, freedom and secularism so when I tell them my real opinions about erdogan and ottoman empire. They accuse me of not being a Turk but a jew 🤣🤣🤣

Imagine , you are a Turk and you met with a literal non Turk from arab countries or pakistan and he is telling you that you are not a real Turk but a jew 🤣🤣🤣

I literally laugh about other countries thinking they know more. Thats why when people came to me talking about the Queen, i told them straight up, may she rest in peace but i dont know anything about another countries politics. I can't even tell you her kids/grandkids names. Only Princess i knew was Diana 🤷‍♀️ and i thought she was American up until recently 😭🤣

I know akihabara in japan has cool stores for nerds, geeks, gamers, and otakus. And the supposed the wildlife distribution in certain countries, but other than that 🤷🏻

I’d agree if it worked. But people with those types of attitudes are rarely open to learning new things that don’t suit their own preconceived biases. Especially those who’d act in such an extreme manner as you mention.
