What is the holistic strategy in college English?

By how you ask the question I am inclined to believe that this is a specific strategy I do not know of. So I can't help if that is the case.

In general though a holistic approach as opposed to a minimalist or atomistic one is about seeing the full picture instead of breaking it down to smaller parts.
In language breaking it down could be the norm of examining grammar rules and alike. A very common way of finding the smallest rules and building on them. Going from the small details and expanding from there.

A holistic approach by contrast is about seeing a complete picture at the start and then using that wider view to understand the parts. So rather than grammar rules you could be tasked with say... role playing embassies of different countries. Introducing a significant amount of real life problems and applications of language while also letting you use it to accomplish something that feels meaningful.

This of course just me talking about the word holistic and not any strategy I know. But if you were to adapt a strategy based on holistic theories I am reasonably confident this is still how it would be done. Because that's what the word means and my atomistic understanding of the meaning of a singular word should let me make an educated guess. Just like your understanding of the greater context of the expressed elucidation of what is being conveyed should help you make sense of this sentence. You go from large to small or small to large.

The other educated guess is that a holistic approach would try to consider the learner more. And build around their traits. Growing a desire to learn rather than spoonfeeding detailed knowledge. So really, I am largely guessing. But one or both of these guesses should be correct.
