What's the best, high-paying job?

Not many and it depends on where you live. For ex 100k used to be the benchmark of a high paying job but that was when pensions were still available and Back to the future was in the movie theaters. Even if you make a 100k a year, and care about retirement, if you max out, you're only left with roughly 80k left. Then you get taxed on that while overpaying for everything today.

Where I live I need to be at about 200k to own a home, a car, insurances, try to save for retirement... all this means two solid jobs because most jobs don't pay this much to one person unless you're a director level or higher in a big corporate company.

This is besides the doctor lawyer blah blah we all know. Not all doctors make 200kna year fyi. Sometimes sales positions that are ok commission might get you to this if you're the best one.

Depends. I have a former girlfriend who left her 300k a year corporate lawyer job to setup and run a 2 million a year dog grooming franchise.

Lesson being that "best" doesn't mean "high-paying" nor does it mean "happy". I tease her with her title "dog maid" when I see her around Christmas time.

The highest paying probably wouldn't be the best... CEO of a large company would pay several million a year. A neurosurgeon would make between $500,000 and $1million a year.
