Why is Teaching a Female-Dominated Field?

there could be a few reasons for it... and also an important observation to make

there are significantly more women than men teaching at the elementary schooling levels, but as you approach college education, there are pretty much 50/50 professors

also, about "dominated field" it might be true that there are more women than men being teachers, but the ones who dominate and make decisions on the education and teaching fields are still men, they do make the decisions from above

and another important point to make is "tradition and status" teaching is typically a low paying profession, which men tend to avoid and also way up into the 70's many institutions barred women from getting degrees on "higher status" fields (mostly the sciences) and so the most popular option left for women was teaching

it is also true that women are more naturally inclined to care, to nurture and to provide for the youngest ones, in this case with the basic education

Because like most female dominated fields, it's emotionally rewarding but doesn't pay well. Unlike women, men HAVE to earn good money to have any shot at success in life. Teaching didn't used to be female dominated but it has become so because the education and skillset requirements are limited and the entry barrier is modest at most. Men have to set their sights on more lucrative fields. That is all in the world it is.

Good question. I assume it's due to the fact women have more patience than men. Women have more love and care for children. It also comes from the Bible too, since the women were stay-at-home mothers, it was their job to educate the children as well as them attending school.

there's also a prejudiced social stigma attached to it where men can be deemed as "creeps" and no man would want to put himself in that situation.
