In 1812, top hats, collared shirts, striped t-shirts, long sideburns, full heads of hair... this was the Navy look.

Hey Anon. I was in the U. S. Navy for 22 years. We're clean shaven a little bit for discipline and looking sharp and uniform. But the much larger reason is that in a damage control situation where you need to wear the mask for a breathing device (or gas masks) the masks get the tightest seal on your face.

As for the white uniforms, a lot of that is holdover from the past as well as the need for a cooler tropical uniform. Navy blue wool when you're on shore leave in Hong Kong or Honolulu makes for a miserable outing.

Bro, that is only in movies and on rely expensive cruse ships. And the reason I'm saying that is because I'm a sailor myself and so are my grandparents (I'm a sailor because they sent me to sailing camp) you don't have to be a specific age to be a sailor as long as you know what your doing. And trust me in the sailing community there are so many people and often enough they are very unique, have an interesting character and are often quite kind.
