I think if women want to be in the military, they really need to go though the exactly the same thing as men
A little American hair history coming through for you. As far back as George Washington's Continental Army, men have been required to have a buzzed or short cuts. This was done initially because lice and cleanliness were major issues in the trenches and living quarters of the men so it made perfect sense to have them cut down their hair. At the time, women were not allowed to serve, or involved in combat, so there wasn't even anything to compare to.
When women did join the military in 1948, lice was no longer an issue, but in case one is confused, the military is a VERY conservative organization!!! They intend to uphold conservative values of style and dress. In modern times, male soldiers largely aren't required to have severely buzzed cuts and certainly aren't required to go bald. Regulations generally state some version of neat and short. There are some branches like Navy Seals where "normal civilian" cuts are the norm because they need to blend in for special ops purposes and a buzzed/bald cut could give them away.
For women, bangs must be off the eyes, hair above the collar, and off the ears. If a woman has really long hair, she is required to tie it up low and tight to the back so as not to interfere with wearing a helmet. It is literally written into military rules and regulations that women CANNOT have a bald or severely buzzed hairstyle because this style is considered by the military to be eccentric and trendy. The military also recognizes that if they actually did require women to severely cut their hair, it may severely impact recruitment of women.
Some male recruits and some female recruits are still required to get "short" hairstyles upon arrival for a couple reasons: tradition, standardized looks for new recruits, ease of maintenance, reduced risk of the hair being caught in equipment, helmets, etc and because gender/societal norms still very much play a part in the miliary.
Hope that clears it up....
Let’s not forget that in a combat situation, somebody could just pull your hair and it would be very difficult to get out of that because your hair doesn’t have like any muscles or anything for you to like maneuver out of it or something so when and where possible if you’re in a fight grab the hair because the moment you grab the hair you own them.
Getting your hair caught in machinery’s also not a fun thing
Having your hair catch on fire, isn’t a fun thing. I had that happen to somebody and by the way, the grease on your head which gets into your hair, makes it a little more flammable.
Lastly, I’m going to bring up the uniformity, because individuality in an army doesn’t work out very well
There is no modern practical reason for it. I don't think men have to shave their head anymore, just has to be tidy and off their neck. Most just choose to shave because it's easier than what women have to go though in the military to keep their hair tidy.
I believe there is a woman in the army who invented her own hair gel that she uses to slick her hair back and keep her hair in a nice tidy tight bun.
When it was standard women weren't allowed in the military and it was mostly done for hygienic reasons during WW1 to prevent the spread of lice.
Then it kind of carried on in a social matter, women didn't have to because it wasn't socially acceptable for them to have short hair. Was seen as a bold statement which is a no no.
There’s a lot of practical reasons other than hygiene.
Number one if you have long hair, the guy who’s fighting you can pull that hair and absolutely dominate you and you can’t do much about it because they have you by the hair. Being grabbed by the hair is such a horrible thing in a combat situation that I believe there’s actually a popular phrase involving grabbing someone by the hair. To minimize this, they make women have their set up in a way that it is less likely to get grabbed. Problem is unlike a bald man. There is still a lot of room for grabbing of said hair because the hair still exists, and is still long enough for you to get a good grip on it.
Number two long hair can get cut in things which might not seem like that big of a deal until you realize in the military that your hair and your head are going to get close to a lot of moving parts with your hair can get caught on and they can mess with the equipment and your scalp so having long hair means you’re more likely to lose your hair by having it ripped out your head.
Reason number three hair is flammable. Yes, that is right. Your hair is flammable and can catch on fire. I don’t think I need to explain why that’s a bad thing but just in case the reason that’s a bad thing is because if your hair catches on fire you’re going to burn your head a lot and it’s not gonna be pretty and since in the military, you might have to be around a lot of flammable materials. It’s generally a good idea to either not have a lot of hair or at least keep it covered up.
Reason umber four will be hygiene even though that is significantly less important than having your hair ripped out or being used as a message to control you or having it set on fire or caught in a gear or something like that it’s still not that great.
Reason number five uniformity is great in the military because individuality can I have negative consequences on a military and I don’t have enough room to explain why that’s the case.
@crossdressingrihno yeah people use the hair pulling argument but military folk have said that they have never seen it happen. You're wearing helmets most the time and hair is slicked back making it hard to grab. Numbers two again longer hair has to be slicked back. It's basically as hard as ballroom dancers hair. So. Much. Gel.
Hair is less flammable than clothing... Silly point really... And again it's tied up and slicked back.
I already explained your last two points.
My back ground isn’t military but I lived in a pretty shady neighborhood so it wasn’t all too uncommon for street fights and shootings to happen so I’ve unfortunately had my share of altercations.
I have seen plenty enough hair pulling to know that I don’t want it to happen to me.
But yeah hand to hand is probably not as likely to happen when you have hand grenades and semi automatic rifles.
Obviously around here the biggest dangers are pistols and knives so the best way to deal with them is from up close.
@crossdressingrihno yeah very different to compare street fighting to being at war 🥴
That’s what I meant when I wrote “ but yeah, hand to hand is probably not as likely to happen when you have hand grenades and semi automatic rifles”
I just also think that certain things are still applicable in certain scenarios, and it’s better to be prepared for them, then to not be prepared for them. For example, if you’re doing breach and clear through a suspected terrorist household, and somebody gets the jump on you.
It’s nice to keep a Murphy’s Law in mind.
Less people would likely get staph infections if men and women had their heads buzzed. Not anything to do with razors though. I remember during combat training which was our first co-ed training in the Marines they told women not to shave several times, a few did, and one woman lost her labia to the staph.
Boot camp and field training are disgusting, having anything that keeps that filth in just leads to more infections.
We were both Devildogs. What do you think of women in combat rolls?
@Exterminatore It undermines the reason for the draft and the strategic placement of America in the first place. Smaller picture, men are more affected by women becoming casualties, we're wired that way or are sociopaths. Forget about long term damage to women.
I could see it working out if we created separate units like Israel did. Another factor will be men fighting over women, you can just google the statistics of sailors assaulting and killing each other when women first went on ships.
Agreed, not to mention they’re weaker physically and emotionally. They’re coordination and balance isn’t as good as ours, they can’t take as much physical damage as us, plus pregnancies reduce fighting effectiveness. That’s not to mention being in the field for 30+ days and not being able to clean their girly parts which has to be an infection waiting to happen, and the likely sexual harassment complaints that will likely affect unit cohesiveness.
Even if the complaints don't come, just worrying about the possibility will leave you walking on eggshells. One plant I worked at a woman got hired onto an all guy team, then sued because she went into someone else's locker and said she found porn.
Hell, I had a woman I worked with who groped me and harassed me on a regular. When I put in the written complaint my supervisor claimed I was trying to set her up. It's just funny to me how that "equality" only flows one way.
Agreed. Where I work you must take a physical fitness test. Yet when it comes time to lift things which are a standard part of the job for everyone it’s “man’s work.” “Get a man to do it.” That’s also not equally. When women say equality they really mean a handicap that gives them special privileges. They mean they want to cheat, but be given equal privileges and rights.
@Exterminatore Next time Dow or Dupont is picking up I'm "identifying" female to get those sweet sweet privileges. Like if you do that from hiring, basically you can never get fired, and are getting slotted in as a minority on hiring too. I've already tried out applying for the same jobs as a guy and woman where they have the "voluntary" identifications you mysterysly can't skip anymore
Good point. If I ever apply for a new job I’m identifying as a black female lesbian. I will literally be able to tell the CEO how it’s done and not get fired.
well it helps identify the boys from the girls lol,,,

Is there any place they still do full shave? here its short hair for man
Orignally the reason was to break invdiality for one and avoid whach you call that bags for second
Today number 2 is not that relvant
Anyway the resaon woman are not asked to shorten there hair and the like is colturely hair for a woman is a big big part of them self, some grow there hair from really young age, for most man hair is not such a big deal, at least long one
The militery here at least set the rule that man have to have short to no hair, and no beard if not for a (can't type religion right so writing) cult reasons
Woman need to have short hair up to sholders or long hair packed up in a pony tail, must be colored in natrual colors if colored at all
regardless we may see this change as more and more man care for there hair more and more (that you can see with the man hair care products in stores taking more shelf space so someone buying it)
I don't think they do that anymore... But i see your point there 👍. Never thought about it because i am from Iraq and i have never seen a female soldier there, i have served during the 2003 war (spoiler! It didn't go well 🤣) and even when I worked with the American troops, there was no iraqie women participating at any of that 🤷♂️.
The military recognizes that men and women are different so we have different grooming standards.
They’re very traditional (we even still have prayers at promotions). Although you don’t care for female recruits, the military does. If it bothers you so much, don’t join.
First look at my age, I'm too old
Second this question is about having equal rights for both genders.
Equal “rights” in regards to what? Grooming standards? Men and women are different so our dress and appearance regs are different. I got bitched at every single damn day in basic because my bun wasn’t “sleek” enough. Those of us who served know presentation/ appearance means a lot in the military. They know how “traditional” the military is. You can find military regs and grooming standards on google. When you join you give up certain “freedoms”. It’s usually civilians on the internet who know nothing about the military who say these type of things. The military is not about being “fair” and it’s not rainbows and sunshine. If you don’t agree with AFI grooming standards then just don’t join. It’s as simple as that.
Men have to have short hair in the military not for aesthetics but because it’s stupid to have long hair in a combat situation. That’s why women have to have their hair up.
Long hair can be pulled, caught on fire, stuck in front of your face or just caught on something.
If the military cared about women then women would have shaved heads so that way they don’t have a big “bullseye” on their head.
Also if the military cared about women their wouldn’t be so many tossed out sexual assault and rape allegations.
Point is the military doesn’t actually care and it’s stupid to have long hair in an active combat zone.
@crossdressingrihno
Reread my response. I did not say men have to have short hair for aesthetics, although appearance definitely matters.
Men are not required to have shaved heads when deployed either.
As I stated above, they care about female RECRUITS. Less women would enlist if we were required to shave our heads and there’s absolutely no point in doing so.
You’re using your own imagination on what you think combat looks like.
We are required to have hair styles that do not hinder our gas masks or helmets. If your bun hinders the proper fitting of your gas mask or helmet? Fix it or cut it. & There’s no “big bullseye” during everyday life there are regs on the size of the bun.
Point is, having a shaved head doesn’t improve anything like you hope it does and recruits in basic definitely aren’t in combat.
I would not expect women to go bald I think it's just a quicker way to demean us & that everyone is the same and their is no individuals. I rmbr in reception at 30th, they would tell us we stink and we need to shave and would make fun of us, meanwhile having us wait in so many lines & when we weren't In a line. We sat up in a gym all day looking at nothing but time pass and if u fell asleep someone's camel pak was getting dumped on your head.
Last time I checked, women do as well. Some soldiers said it's so the enemy can't pull their hair, bur I think that's bullshit, because other countries' soldiers don't do this.
@Lovely210 bootcamp is correct
I'd say you can tell which women you want in your corner when the turds start flying by what hair style the women in the military fly. If its long then you know that their hair is more important than those they are shoulder to shoulder with.
I sort of agree. The only thing I feel should be different between men and women is. That pregnant women shouldn’t be allowed to go into dangerous situations. Because while she signed up for it the unborn child didn’t
I feel women shouldn’t have to shave their heads bald because we can wear our hair in pony tails, bobs etc. and look presentable. I think shaving men bald is a good way to keep from having to constantly cut their hair in a style or looking scruffy to fast.
Military prides itself on tradition. The tradition of no beards and a crew cut was made a requirement due to chemical warfare. If you have hair on your face, then your mask can't get a good seal.
Ladies are not exempt from military tradition, like men, they have their own hair rules to follow. So, they might not have to cut their hair, for basic or boot camp, but it has to be styled a certain way.
For example, a girl would get smoked if she dyed her hair blue
I like when it comes to women who wants equality but when they are accepted in any considered men's profession, they always receive a special treatment...
They are always the priority, they get all the positive things that you have but still are treated as 1st and you as SH*T! 😂
Shaved hair on women is considered trendy so it's not allowed
They have not shaved heads in years. The guys you see with shaved heads wanted to do it.
Those serving and those who have served know the reason.
For those who are not and have not, it doesn't concern them.
Huh?
Because like every where else in life women have what's called beneficial double standard treatment. No where in life is there a double standard that benefits men.
Sometimes the dress code is diferent. I think it's related to that.
Because Will Smith will start slapping people
Agreed. That would be equality. Also same physical fitness standards. No gender norming.
I severed in the Marine Corps. I deployed twice and I feel this is how it always should have been.
Double standards I guess
That would be equal in fairness!
Because of the pronoun police.
I completely agree by the Gynocracy does not.
Head shaving in thing of past here
They don't? That's stupid then.
Those fuckers have a hair fetish I tell you :D
Agreed
