What would you think if a professor acted like that?

What would you think if a professor randomly pointed at a 22 year old student who never says a word in class and blurted out "stop talking so much!" just to make fun of her for being shy and quiet?

You can rest assured that if something like that happened to me, I would not hesitate to tell him what I think of him, his IQ, his lack of education, his unacceptable behavior and his inappropriate comment. I would also ask him to apologize in front of the entire class.

I would single him out in front of the entire class and see how he would like it when the entire class and subsequently the entire school makes fun of him.

Granted, I would have to see the dean of the school but I would also give him a piece of my mind about hiring inept people that find nothing better to make stupid comments that are not worthy of a person that is supposed to educate others and that they should review their hiring policies.

Whether it’s a professor or a supervisor of a Medical Sales team, there are times one will be placed in undeserved and undesirable positions. The worse thing you can do, as a woman, is to have a meltdown emotional Tizzy itemizing all the distasteful qualities of the Leader.

There is nothing that one can do in that moment and in some environments one is purposefully testing your ability to handle pressure and respond in a beneficial manner.
One can, however, speak to the person afterwards to see if there is anyway that you may serve him/her or you can complain him/her and be blacked ball or suffer a negative career consequence.

This unfortunately is real life in the jostling for Position, Power, and Prestige. It is good training and no reaction is the better than misstepping into attacking opinions and demonstrating, “yeah, I told you she didn’t have what is required for this job.”

I don;t think that is appropriate. Instead it would be more appropriate if the professor maybe called on the student during class and asked her a question. Maybe hand pick a softball just to give the kid a little confidence.

When kids would show up to my class late they always got the first question.

Being in the academic field for so long I can vouch that a majority of the professors in every field are problematic, it's actually very hard to find a good professor. Academic life can be pretty hard to live for long and it screws with a lot of people's head.

It was an attempt to get the student to participate. The professor at least cares. Some are there for the check and don't care if people even show up.

Not good. It's an implicit way of humiliation. You could say it's at least implicit and not explicit, but it's still humiliation.
