If Uber makes them no money, why is it a successful company?

There is no uber here where I live in my small town, no one wants to drive 40 or 50 miles outside of town. No delivers of any kind, but I see uber as stupid, same with doordash and others that make people use their own car and barely pay anything.
I used to know a uber driver though, he didn't pick up random people, he got contracts with companies, such as car dealerships to pick up people and take them home after they dropped their car off for warranty work.
The companies paid above average for him... as they found it cheaper than having a full time driver on hand to offer that courtesy.
In a way his uber job was like a part or full time job for one or two clients who paid better.
Now doordash is a joke, big joke... because it requires tipping first, and if you don't, no one wants to pick up your order, because it won't even cover gas.
I guess people do these jobs, because they like being their own bosses... no one has to do any doordash orders or pick up any rides with uber that they don't want to.
I'd be okay if they went out of business, but I wouldn't miss them either, since they aren't here for me... I'd not even notice.
Agreed. If you want more money you have to add skills. Hell, the state will pay for training in most cases.
Hair stylist/ barber. Unless you work for yourself and have a ton of clients. If you work for a salon or barber shop you don’t make squat. Employers tell you that you can make a lot of money. But that’s based on how much people tip you. If your fast, clients don’t feel like you took your time to do it right and it may not look as good as if you took your time. Then you’ll just make $5 per client and hopefully do 3 clients per hour. But if you take your time and make sure it’s perfect and the clients satisfied, you may get $10 per client if not more. But you’ll be lucky enough to do 1.5-2 clients an hour. And that’s if your stores busy. But they don’t provide you with a lot of hours. Hourly rate is between $8-$15/ hour. So basically, according to the government, I’m in the very low income range. I can’t afford my rent. Now I’m being evicted. So.. yeah. Don’t get into this job. Too much stress and not enough benefits. Not even health care.
I do get the sleepy thing. Lol. I get some clients that love to talk and some that just zone out relaxed. I’ve had a few fall asleep. Lol.
We are simply getting an increasingly disproportionate number of jobs which would have been "supplemental income" a few decades ago. That is, rather menial jobs worth less than the minimum wage, yet which some states require paying twice the worth OF the job. When my folks were married, one average job - insurance salesman, store owner, teacher, bookkeeper, secretary, etc. - could support a home. At that time, sometimes the spouse would also work, yet then that would be for specific items or a trip, or savings. All different now. It take two typical salaries to support a household since the government has strangled the typical wage-earner. Sales tax was 3% when I was a kid. A carryout pizza was 97 cents, plus tax = $1.00 even. A pizza on Wednesday night every couple of weeks was a treat! My dad would give a 25¢ tip, too, a fine tip back then. Now, tax RATE is over 9%. So in addition to getting more tax due to the cost of the pizzas being more, the government gets 3 TIMES that, since the higher cost is multiplied by the higher rate! THAT is a primary reason why jobs aren't "making enough money".
All that waste of Gas with high inflation due to Biden and then the wear and tear on your personal vehichle due to the massive amount of miles being driven and only making min wage or even below that is wold if you ask me lol people aren't gonna tip high cause Biden made sure every penny counts hahaha.
Lol have you not noticed the state of the US? Min wage is not paying all those miles on your car? Plus Vehichle maintenence, such as oil changes and a transmission change, coolant change and even replacing spark plugs.
The starter could go out and may need replacing, the car could overheat and may need a new water pump or radiator lol if you put tons and tons of miles on your car , things will need to be replaced it's regular wear and tear lol why do you think car rentals, go straight to the used car lot to be bought after being ran on so many miles?
So a min wage job that requires you to service and maintenence your own person vehichle lol and you get paid shit plus GAS PRICES! Sky rocketed at best. People can barely afford there rent, and bills, how in the hell are they gonna tip high? Food cost way to much now hahaha.
I barely go to Walmart but the high influx of Walmart ppll now is crazy haha I can't even get out to get one thing another store was sold out on hahaha Biden has turned the US upside down & meanwhile all these Americans are suffering and he's throwing Ukraine billions over billions hahaha and it's only been 11 months of the Russian-Ukraine War hahahhaa come on bro lol meanwhile rent has shot up another 300 dollars hahaha.
True, but what’s the real cause? Is it perhaps not enough education? The govt should be spending more money on infastruxture which in turn hires more skill-less labor?
I get your side that we have 30 trillion in debt. And I had to work hard to get my skills. And my taxes keep going to their coffers because they’re idiots. But perhaps there’s a middle ground asmwer…
The real cause is Biden, took away jobs and place stupid things so now to work a lot of jobs even though they can't force it they can junk your application whether you are vaccinated or not which has forced people to even shittier jobs. Even if people were educated we have apts now wanting 3x the rent to just live there? But most jobs don't even pay worth a DAMN lol so homelessness increases more people have had to bunch up with their family's & more. Again all this money for Ukraine but nothing for the American people, I would invite you to see the homeless rates in California skidrow is basically the size of a city now literally. They're trying to gentrfy the area and still can't fix it and LASD refuses to keep purging the area because it's really that bad, yet it's give free money to the foreigners but American people? Fuck all of y'all deal with it.
Like I said with Walmart there has been so much theft they're starting to close down stores. It's cause of the state were in, it should be America first everytime. That's why we need leaders in office who care about Americans & not illegals and foreign countries.

I work as a journalist part-time, I do earn money but sometimes less than with unemployment benefits. (thats after taxes and social security). The huge difference is, that I do pay into my social security like pension and have a higher health insurance class. Also after we marry it has a huge impact on his tax-class. So all in all working is worth it but for some months we may have technically less money than with unemployment benefits.
The drives make minimum wage if that but the people that run the website are getting rich.
You're being simple minded.
What Uber is doing to these drivers amounts to wage theft and theft of service.
For a lot of these people it's a large source of income, aside from benefits.
Uber makes them no money. Uber driver are basically taxi drivers. Uber is a big multinational company and like all corporations they like to keep costs down and the biggest expense is wages. Any company will pay you as little as they can, so if you don't like it you can either quit or strike.
They should have never let uber replace taxi firms.
Probably that whole „gig economy“ scheme is one large cutthroat slavery system.
I make little money because I don't rob my clients blind but I love what I do so keep doing it
No, self-employed
Excellent question.
Many, sadly.
