I don't know about CU, but I know there aren't many Australians in the US. Only about 1 out of 300 immigrants are from Australia. Immigration is different than student visas, but the ratios are probably similar.
CU Boulder is nice. I've been through there several times and spent some time in off-campus student housing. It was a large frat type of house called "Cloud Nine". It was a party house.
For people who like mountains, it's probably the best place in the country. Boulder is just getting into the mountains and is the gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park which is a very nice mountain park.
