In general do work suck ups get ahead of the other coworkers?

I'm going to say no. I usually saw them getting used like toilet paper and flushed down the toilet. In their heads though, they really thought they were making big boss moves... but in reality, their evals were worse than mine and they were just shining the boots and ironing their boss's uniform. Fucking hilarious. Big boss moves 😂

I'll put it like this... they end up doing a whole lot of extra work... but not the type of work that matters about getting the job done. Even the boss's D or V they're sucking on realizes how useless they are outside of getting their D or V sucked.

It leads to bullshit too... one of the main reasons I'm 100% anti-fraternization, but that's a whole other can of worms.

Be helpful with getting the job done and you'll generally rise to the top... as you'll just be much more valuable. Like me, you might end up finding that you're just capable of doing things nobody else can do... that's when they actually need you. And that's when you can ask for things, do what you want, and take what you want... all within reason of course. ... If you're the suck-up... people generally don't like you... even the leadership.

Well you don't want to confuse someone who is ambitious and wants to get ahead, with a "suck up". I hate to see people who want to learn the job well and get promoted, be accused of sucking up to everyone when that isn't really what they are doing.

People that offer themselves to be used, get treated that way and very rarely get promoted.

Smart people work smarter not harder and focus work to achieve business needs, build the project, run the project and then get promoted since theyre now the best at it.

I have a quiet, shy and rather serious personality. So they never like me. But that’s fine. I wouldn’t fit in with or enjoy being around them any more than I have to, anyway

No. Maintaining success in ones career is having a combination of humility and competence. Its walking that fine line where you're genuinely good at something yet still have the capacity to learn and be taught.

Suck ups, brown nosers, or whatever we call them; are often guided by their own ambition and lack one or both of the qualities above.
