Would you move somewhere for a new career opportunity if you couldn't take your pets with?

For me this is a tricky one. I recently moved to Australia for Grad School and because of their strict biosecurity laws, I couldn't take my Cockatiels with. I was able to do this because I will be away for ~2-3 years while my mom watches over them and I would get to be with them when I come back to the states. I mean I do miss them but I figure this way I can focus more on getting my PhD and I don't have to worry about finding someone to watch them if I go away. But would I stay longer in Australia after earning my degree?

Well if I was offered a post-doc position here I wouldn't take it but if I was offered a faculty position here in Australia straight out of the PhD program I would consider moving but I would still be leaning towards going back to the states.

Aw I meant to ask you if you took your babies with you. And yes, I would move for a career opportunity without my pets. I’d def try to find someone I know though so I could see them when I came to visit. You made a smart decision even though it must have been really hard to make that sacrifice.

Im not a pet person so i wouldn't have a prob giving them to someone who could be a better owner for them while im away. Now if i had kids, i’d take my kids with me or just not go at all

You use of past tense is a bit confusing. I'm not sure if you left them and came back or you left and haven't returned yet.

If you left and haven't returned yet. I'd say they are your mom's birds now. Leave them, rather than upset their life again. Stay in Australia and continue your career.

Also don't get pets again. Until you are stable and able to commit to them for their lifetime.
