And the people upstairs were banging, stomping like elephants, and letting things fall on the floor, making my ceilings vibrate?

I sent a message to the manager of the complex. I have not had a problem like this for about a year, when some really noisy neighbors lived above. They I think had construction done about 2 weeks ago, and now they really are banging things around. It sounds like either sumo wrestling or someone is getting beat up. The complex manager is coming in tomorrow, finally after being away a week.

You can pick the neighborhood but you can’t pick your neighbors & unfortunately if people live upstairs you are going to hear noise. As for construction or remodeling it does happen & during the process you just have to live with it until the projects are done. As for your complex manager invite him or her over for lunch & let them hear the noise & maybe there will be something they can do.

I would record the sounds, and also install a decibel meter on my phone to measure the volume. I would keep a log of the times I was disturbed and the measured volume.
