This house was built in 1877, and sits in Salem, Ohio. It's listed for sale for US$118 thousand and needs a lot of work, both inside and out.

This house was bought
Out of a Sears catalog I for get the price of them back then of course , it was expensive back then , but in today's work , I mean , it just seemed so cheap

Anyway i went up to Washington to meet. My real wanted me to take over his business.
I lived with him for about 3 days. And I had to go find a place to live. I couldn't take it anyway. I found the house just like that. It was in bad bad shaken, but I talked to the owner. And I told her , I would do all the outside work for a certain amount of money , and she had a room for it and some money taken off my rent we made a deal and I live there for about a year and a half

My dad was a painting contractor and\n Besides, going up there to meet him. He wanted me to take Uber his business when I moved out, he asked me what I was going to do, and I told him I'm going to do what I came app here to do, but I'm just going to do it in a different way. And he smiled, because he knew, taking over his business. I'm gonna see if I have a picture still. Well I can't find.
It, but, anyway, the lady that I rented it from. She have 7 bedrooms in their studio apartments.
She bought it for cheap. She rented out each apartment for a good price in the house as paid for itself. It is a beautiful home. All wood tongue and groove. floors on the inside but they all needed to be redone. moved back to reno

But to answer your question i think I would have rented out the top floor as one apartment and the bottom floor as 1 apartment.\nBut she's making more money renting out all seven rooms

If you ever get a chance , look up in sears catalog , they have a lot of beautiful homes way back , then that's how you used to buy homes through sears

I’d have to start with a little market research to determine if it’s worth investing in for resale and if the neighborhood was decent enough to live there. Free houses aren’t cheap though. I think a lot of places make you or your benefactor to pay the property taxes up front to complete the transfer.
I like the look of the house. So i wouldn’t mind living there if the neighborhood was decent. Live there and fix it up slowly.

Looks quite a nice house and not that old really, just a shake it's been neglected. I suspect it's got a preservation order on it which is going to make fixing up more expensive than usual.

That said I'd be tempted to fix it up and put it on the rental market or even use it as a bed and breakfast.

Lot of people don't realise Salem is short for Jerusalem, it's why it's a common name for chapels.

Depends how damaged ceiling and floor beams are. This is a brick house and it's heavy, cracks in foundation should be checked as well.
Those 3 factors are important, cracks in foundation and rotten beams disqualify such house as investment.
Of course it's Salem and a witch appeasement ritual is necessary. lol

I have no interest in living in Ohio. I would certainly look at the numbers but it would probably be most profitable to rehab the house and then sell it.

I felt really uneasy when I viewed the image, so I have no intention of moving there. Fixing it will cost a lot of money, it's better to break it down and build a new home or better, rent it to movie studies for making horror/zombie movies or tv series as it looks like a perfect home for it. 😅

Ooo I was gonna say do ot up and sell it but on seeing "hire out for movies" to use wow, love that idea. And with any luck they will pay to "fix" it up to at least a safety level (no collapsing roof or wall or floor risks) so that's a bonus!

It would probably cost about as much or more to fix that up as it would to just build a whole new house, but the new house definitely would not look as cool. I could pretty much fix almost everything on that house, I don't know if I want to deal with all the mold, rat piss, rat shit, and fucking ghosts. I sure as hell wouldn't want to work on that roof, that thing is suicidal.

It's an interesting house, but neither its style nor its location holds any appeal for me.

I'd sell it, not to the first offer though, unless it was an offer substantially above that which might be expected.

First I would rent it out for horror movies. After I got the money from that I'd renovate it and rent it out for a couple years until the market increases then I'd sell it.

The house and renovation would cost me nothing since I rented it for movies, the money made while renting it out is pure profit then selling it is also profit. I could easily make a million dollars off the house

I’d fix it up, update the parts that aren’t up to code (like probably the plumming) and live there. I know some people who have experience with fixing up houses so I’m sure they could provide me with some good advice.

If it has some meaningful family history or origin, I'd probably leave it as is and fix stuff that needs to be fixed in and out of it.

However, if it doesn't, I'd either sell it or demolish it and build a new home with better foundation.

It looks like something out of a horror movie. The architect and/or owner clearly had a statement to make. I'm afraid it's still unclear what it was.

It's probably worth 20% of that asking price at most. 80% of that sum you will have to invest in reconstruction to return it to livable conditions.

I'd probably get a quote on fixing it up, as I would not attempt to do it myself. Ultimately I'd probably put it up on the market as a fixer-upper.

The house can be fixed. The location in Salem Ohio cannot be fixed. I'd sell it to someone who wants to live in a dead town in a red state.
