Was this art teacher wrong to say this?

There was some teachers talking about a special education student. Something about this kid really wanted to be in NHS or honors…

The teacher said she would let the student come in and observe and come in after school but he’s not being credited to “make him feel better about himself”

I don't think that is wrong. I am assuming the special education student is not at the academic level to be part of NHS/honors. It would be wrong to let him think he was when he wasn't.

It hasn't done students any favors to enter premier schools without the scores usually needed. As I understand it they often drop out because it is too hard when they could have got a useful degree at a less prestigious school.

So I think the teacher is right.

Right. Well. If you push someone outside their capabilities. It does more harm then good. At the same time…. Some people are underestimated.

The individual in question though. It was a high school. He is definitely not at the level to be able to enter NHS or something like that.

He was a MAP A student. So…

People thrown off the deep end can survive and flourish and it becomes a very good experience but is can be a very debilitating experience if they fail.
