How would you respond if your teacher said this to you?

You were doing a progress review with a teacher. He pointed towards areas of weakness, and you felt down about it.

He witnessed this reaction and said,

"Hey don't start hitting yourself hard in your bum with a paddle"

What would you think if a male teacher said this to you?

Its a throw away statement, he could have said "dont beat your self up about it". Its not a sexualised statement unless you make it so

I was thinking this too, it could be a throw away comment. it is definitely more common to say "don't beat yourself up about it"

When i just started school kids were still getting smacked over the arse with a stick or a belt every day so i take it as reference to that

I hear you, but he also held my gaze without breaking contact. I broke eye contac, becasue it was getting awkward, to catch him still looking at me in silence.

Well maybe something to it, but i would probably just move on but if something like that happened again that made you question perhaps something is up

I agree, by the way he didn't hold my gaze after he made that comment. I acted like I didn't hear him say that. He gazed at me when our session was finishing. I was waiting for him to wrap it up, since there was nothing more to say. But, he didn't say anything, he just kept looking at me, making it awkward.
