Should I go for a PhD?

I want to work with money, but I only have one year of college under belt and I am almost 30 should I just go for a PhD.

I know a lot of people say college is useless and all I need to do is work in the trades, but I can't find a job at all. I tried and I am out of options.

I just want to pursue and education and enjoy life now. Just have a little fun and that's it.

What do you want to do? All the people I work with who have PhDs report to me, so it clearly didn't help their careers more than experience did. If you can't pay cash for it don't even consider it.

Most PhD programs are fully funded. Its good to know they get to work a job. I can't get any at all.

I know a lot of unemployed people with PhDs so they must not be fully funded for long. That doesn't answer the question. What do you want to do? If you want to go be a U. S. Marshal that PhD won't do you squat if you're 43 years old and obese. If you want to be a librarian than a PhD in library science is quite helpful. So your answer affects my answer.

I just enjoy math and want to study it. I don't have anything else going on in my life and see no future for myself. So its purely for fun.

Can you do it without student loans? If so then go for it.

Most PhDs are usually funded. Masters degrees usually require a loan. Thats why people go for PhD if i can't finish the worse that will happen is i fail it with a masters degree. If i go for a masters ill have to take out loans.

And its math I am thinking of doing finance maybe if I am lucky.

If you can do it without loans go for it. I just know a lot of PhD holders that are up to their eyeballs in debt and they all make significantly less than I do. Don't be that guy.

Networking and connections are a great way to get into work, volunteer try to be active in your community, friends also can help get jobs sometimes.

A PhD is basically hiding in college and accruing more debt. Find and learn a skill that will get a job that pays the bills.
