Which is the more worthwhile plan: do a 4-year ph D or do another 4 year bachelors' degree?

I don't know which one would have the better job outlook or financial pay-off.

You are putting the cart before the horse. You need to decide what you want to do, then find out what kind of education or experience you need to get there.

You also need to look locally, since the type, availability, and pay of jobs can vary a lot from one place to the next.

Do your research, Nobody here can answer the question without knowing what you want to do, and what your options are.

You are just trying to decide between a PhD and a BS/BA? Will you roll dice to determine with field you want to study after you make that initial decision? Or are you just declining to give us any information we can work with to help you?

Obviously, you must think you are qualified for the PhD program. So, you must know what you would want to study?

It depends on what discipline you are planning on getting a PhD in. You must balance earning potential with the time commitment and cost. Generally I would go with the advanced degree. If you considering an engineering degree, that might be a great choice depending on what engineering field.

I'd go for a masters instead of another bachelor's degree. It doesn't have to be in the same field of study as your bachelor's, and they typically only take 2 years, and many programs offer assistantships that cover a large chunk of your tuition.

It depends on your career but a second bachelors degree might be the better choice. For example, having both a technical and business bachelors should give you an edge over applicants with only a single bachelors. An advanced degree would be useful if you plan on going into management and become a company executive.

If you've already got one Bachelor's Degree, you probably won't have to re-take a lot of base course to get another one. The question is - what's the value in terms of payback time, or is it something you're just dying to study no matter what?

Largely depends what the PHD is in and what can you do with it. Some PHDs their only worth is if you intend to work as a lecturer at university. If your degree is in say feminist dance theory you may be better of getting a bachelor degree is something else.

You seem pretty intelligent. Not sure what the exact business climate is where you live, but starting your own business, even as a consultant, might pay you multiples of what you currently earn. I ended up dropping out before sophomore year, so not even an A. A. or A. S. or A. A. S., because my business was already earning me more than my degree probably ever would. Less than 9 years later I have 15 full time employees and make far more than most of the people with whom I went to school.

It really depends on what type of career you are striving g for. More technical or researcher in a given field, then an advanced degree. More technical and want to get into business, then two bachelors or wide technical (example: electrical engineering and firmware/programming engineering), then two bachelors degrees.

At this point I’d progress what you currently have (bachelors?) and get a PhD in that field. It will pay better than two separate bachelors degrees. If you hate your field though, then you could consider pursuing a different degree and find yourself happier

That depends on what university degree you study, an undergraduate degree in medicine is more valuable than a doctorate in Technology in soil and WATER MANAGEMENT AND CONSERVATION.

I’d say offhand go with the phd if you can. Especially in this economy. We’re headed toward brain matter being our moneymaker.
