Pursuing a master’s degree in the age range of 27-29?

I’m a BFA student that has been in college for a LONG time. I am interested in getting a certificate in museum studies, but it will take me another three years. My family is basically already bashing on me about how I should not be in school for “too long.” Is it really all that bad or abnormal for someone in their late twenties or early thirties to finish college?

No it’s definitely not abnormal! You’re pursuing something you love and in which you’d like to become a specialist. I’ll be finishing university myself next year (PhD) so don’t worry about the age side of things. Everyone has different circumstances and different expectations. Measure yourself by your own standards and nobody else’s. It took me too long to actually start doing that myself.

Well, are you hiding in academia or will it really advance your career? At your age you probably need to get real world work experience and let your employer pay for your advanced education. Studying and learning are good, but "doing" is better.

Nah it’s fine, you do you. There’s lots of people that age and older in my uni classes
