Who was your most influential teacher?

That would go to my middle school science teacher. Her energy was so entertaining to watch. She had us on the edge of our seats during her lessons. They hardly felt like lectures. Her vivacious pedagogy brought the material to life. When she discussed the atom, it was almost as if she was as energized as a subatomic particle herself.

I’m grateful to have had her in my district. I believe I was one of her easy students.

In grad school I took a course called Discrete Mathematics. It was taught by the chairman of the math department. This professor gave a lot of work and his tests were of insand proportions. I would bring 6 sharpened pencils to the exams. The class period was 3 hours and you would literally write the entire time filling up multiple blue books. At the end of the 3 hours, nobody would be finishes so he went around the room and snatched the pencil out of your hand and told you you were all done. After the final I went to the bathroom before I went home and there was a grown man in there that was in tears.

However I used to go to his office hours and he would spend as much time as i needed so that I would understand some lesson and his lectures were very good.

Over 20 years later I can still manipulate matrices, compute lottery odds and predict the weather,

When I started teaching my own courses I try to do some of the things that this professor did.

it was not an excuse... it was a reason...

to work in the chemical/oil industry is an easy choice for many in the area, so of course is the one I went with to play it "safer" but is not the one I wanted, I would not go into a life of dissatisfaction just so I can get money

besides... business is also lucrative, in fact... bar two or three people, I am doing "better" than any of the 40+ who graduated in my class

In the US, White is being regarded as Hispanic and Anglo. Non-Hispanic White is Anglo. Because Hispanics can be associated with Spain, they’re grouped with European and thus White.

Caucasian is usually Anglo White. This term is confusing because it means Eastern to S. Eastern European outside the US as I understand it.

Hispanic can mean Spanish or Latin American.

The whole of my class was a bunch of rebellious kids. The teachers who were assigned to us resigned quite fast, and she was the only one who volunteered to work with us.

She took this closed-off redhead outsider under her wings and helped me to connect with my peers. She was a miracle in our lives.
