How to manage a team better?

I gave my people all the support they needed to do their jobs and then got out of the way.

I know that the core of a team is cohesion, but many times the cooperation between departments is not so tacit. I have been trying to improve it, but to no avail.

Could you team up people from both departments to perform a specific task that would create some synergy between participants?
I had people who were older that had a lot of different experiences and also had some very young people that had specific knowledge of newer technologies. I would find a project that they could work on together that they both could contribute their talents.

Maybe have regular team meetings where your teammates can discuss their thoughts and provide feedback so it will be easier for them to work/collaborate together. Also a chance to work out conflicts.
