Why does it seem like you’re constantly gaslit in the workplace?

Probably a cringe question but it seems like you’re just constantly being manipulated. I had a chat with my boss recently where he was like “have you ever considered a career change?” Like wtf is that supposed to mean?

And it came as a shock because he’s always telling me what a great job I’m doing, saying I deserve more pay and everything, really seems to respect me, then he comes out with that. It’s like ok, so what’s really going on? Hard to know how to take that.

It’s like you’re always kept guessing until you can’t take it anymore and quit, or you finally get a raise because you endured the countless hoops and games thrown your way, like a good little soulless corporate soldier.

I'm just so sick of all of it man. If I have one goal going into the new year it’s getting out of Corporate America.

There's an old saying "if you don't have a plan for your life someone else will".

As fate would have it I worked at the same job for 23 years. Was it the right thing to do? Hard to say. Probably not. Most people do not stay at a job for more than 7 years. On the avg. The reason? It's generally LESS PROFITABLE to stay at the same job.

Do you have cable or direct TV? They do not reward customers they already have. They reward NEW customers.

Everything a job tells is for THEIR benefit, not yours. Everything they do is fo the furthering of the company, not you. There is no team. But if they can convince you there is with lip service they might be able to squeeze a little extra production out of you.

By the way. After 20 years. Working at my job. They gave me an award (a plaque) that literally had a number on the back of it. Because that's all you are to a company. A number, a resource, no different than whatever your company is selling or producing. Never forget it.

Dude I know exactly what you mean, the workplace can be so shady sometimes. It's like they want you second guessing yourself all the time.

That comment your boss made about a career change is such bullshit. Like why even throw that out there if he's been saying you're doing great? Probably just trying to mess with your head.

I feel like a lot of bosses get off on that mind game shit. Keeping you on your toes so you don't think you're safe. And dangling thatraise carrot in front of you to squeeze more work out of you. Lames.

Getting outta the corporate rat race sounds like a good plan man. Don't let em play you, you do you. 2023 is your year to find something that actually treats people right. Fuck all that workplace drama forreal.

Just keep doing your thing, don't let em in your head. We're all tryna get to the money, you'll find your way soon enough without that job stressing you out. You got this!
