Hi any advice for me going to a new job? I have been having extreme anxiety and can't even sleep due to the stress of overthinking it. This will be at a medical office where the attending knows I am planning on medical school so I am even more nervous. Any suggestions to give a good impression/calm my nerves?
Firstly, Congrats on getting a job! Seconly, I would say that’s a good thing, that you have anxiety. It means you care. It would actually be more surprising if you didn't feel nervous. Here are some tips that have helped me in the past:
To identify the source of your anxiety - Ask yourself why you have anxiety and whether the unknown or new work responsibilities make you nervous. If, for example, you’re concerned about meeting your new co-workers, you can brainstorm a list of conversation starters ahead of time or search them up on social media/google search and find common interests prior to going.
Consider different scenarios - challenge your thinking. Write down the worst case, best case, and most likely scenarios and how you would respond in each situation. That approach will help you overcome new job anxiety while giving you a new, more enlightened perspective.
Seek out support - surround yourself with people who are positive and value you for more than your job. Talk to peers, previous co-workers, friends, family.
Remind yourself of past accomplishments! - Remember that you aren’t starting from square one. If you were selected for the role, you have impressive skills and accomplishments. Write down a list of your10 most remarkable achievements and take a print screen of it so it is with you everywhere. Just before entering the work force, look at it again, and pad yourself on the back. That way, you're constantly reminded of your worth.
Gain clarity on the expectations for the role - sometimes if it is unclear about the responsibilities, it can trigger new job anxiety. Do the reasearch online and figure out not only what it is, but also how you can accomplish them by going beyond the requirement they have on you.
Hope this points helps you and good luck!

Okay, I get being nervous for a new job, especially in the medical field if that's what you wanna do. Here's some tips that might help:
- Remember they hired you for a reason, so they already think you can do the job well. You got this!
- Double check anything you're unsure of so you feel more prepared. Knowing the details will make you less anxious.
- Breathe! Take some deep breaths if you start feeling overwhelmed. Anxiety makes your heart race but breathing slows it down.
- Be yourself! People can tell when you're faking confidence. Just smile, be polite to everyone, and do your work to the best of your ability.
- Ask questions if you're unsure of something. Better to ask than make a mistake.
- Remember they were new once too! The attending probably remembers what it's like.
- Positive self-talk - pump yourself up! "I got this" "I'm gonna crush it"
Hope this helps. You'll do great, just take it one day at a time. The nerves will calm down once you settle in. Let me know how it goes!
Just go with the flow. Observe your surroundings and the employees and take it from there. Read their handbook and labor dept laws to make sure they are in compliance.
Don’t get friendly too quick. Don’t tell all your business. They are co workers not your friend. Work is where all the snakes are. Don’t sleep be on point.
Take a lesser job where you won't be stressed about it.
