Should prisoners be allowed have jobs?

Might as well put them to use if they want. Testing new drugs could be good. Or jobs no-one else wants. The only job they are offered is to go to war.

Work the convicted can do should be part of the rehabilitation process. Unfortunately, it's not that simple. There are limited jobs they can do in jail, and taking them outside is risky.

I've read about ideas that some companies wanted to build hubs in jails and train the convicted for jobs that could be done within the facility. However, I didn't follow those news, so I'm unsure if it was even tried let alone succeeded.

They are already used as nearly slave labor to make the private prison owners money. They can make like.10 cents an hour doing things the prison is getting paid $20 an hour for.

Now, what would be an improvement is paying them an actual wage and having them buy their own supplies and cover some of their prison expenses instead of having taxpayers foot the bill while the prison collects the bonus money...

I have worked with guys who were in prisons or halfway houses. They are under strict supervision and part of their pay goes to the prison for their keep.
In Pa. The inmates were making furniture for the state offices and the unions, I believe, complained about taking work away from them.

We need to provide them legitimate ways to make money if they have left prison.


Otherwise they will be forced to return to crime, if there’s no other way to make money.

If they’re a rapist, child molester, or serial killer, they should probably stay in prison.

But, if they’ve committed a lesser crime (e. g. drug possession), and have been released, it would be good for them to have options for legitimate work.

They do have jobs in prison. They are forced to work around the prison maintaining.

They make the food.

Do the laundry. Even do plumbing work as well.

Make like 12 to 40 cents per hour.

The only ones who don't work are the ones that are physically unable.

It's part of their rehabilitation. They have job skills, they can use when they get out.

no when a serious war like Vietnam kicks off your government will do conscription of criminals to avoid citizens. It did that before. Russia is doing it now. All governments do it.
