What to wear in a factory job interview?

So my friend has an interview in a steel factory as an engineer. I told her to wear something formal but couldnt be sure because it is a dusty industrial area.

I think it is important to find a balance between looking professional and practical in job interviews.

1) Choose clothes which are neat and tidy. A simple, solid-color blouse or a button-down shirt paired with dark slacks or a knee-length skirt could be a good choice. These kind of clothes are professional without being too formal. You will look like you understand what your job environment but at the same time you are not in it yet.

2) For shoes, comfort is the most important think when I assume that you will walking around the factory.

3) Avoid wearing anything too flashy or distracting. Small earrings or a simple watch might be okay.

Also, consider the specific factory you're applying to. If it's was food production facility, for instance, they might have strict guidelines about what employees can wear for hygiene reasons. But I dont think there is a quideline like that for a steel company.

Casual pants 👖
steel toe 6” 🥾
👚 with no prints or designs
hair up hair in a comfortable pony tail
no necklace, no rings, no dangly earrings.
Keep it really basic.
It’s a factory so you’ll assume PPE is required hence the 6” boot suggestion. Hair up so it’s out of the way but not flirty, and no jewelry dangling around as if you’re working when it could get caught in machinery.
I’d dress like as if I was on my way to work.

Looking 'good' never is a negative impression.
My view: the attire should reflect the profession and position.
And it should reflect the person who wears it.
So I'd recommend something 'practical' with a twist. Low profile make up, flat shoes, trousers.
Not to worry too much: this interview is more about skills than about fashion shows.

You want to look professional, but also wearing what would be suited for a job. You won't wear business or business casual for a job cutting steel in a refinery would you?

So for this job I would probably wear a pair of duckies, steel toed shoes and maybe a work polo

For an interview, dress nicely.  For work, see what other people at the place doing similar work are wearing and wear something similar.

The interview will take place in a clean office, not on the factory floor. She might get a tour so flat shoes would be wise.
