I applied at work in grocery store and in job posted online they were hiring college graduates as encoder in office and cashiers as highschool graduate. I am college graduate and they offered me a job as a cashier. I found out my friend's ex coworker who is only high school graduate got the office job because she has connections to the owner her husbands cousins brother is friends with owner. Her husbands cousins reffered her to owner (the owner is friends with her husbands cousins) I just felt stupid because one time the supervisor was reviewing my qualifications he told me he will give me a cashier as a job because its only my first time as a cashier. But why would they post online that they were hiring a college graduate in office and only to hire highschool graduate? is that nepotism/cryonism? Giving better positions to people you are connected to even though they are less qualified for a job?

That does sound pretty shady. A few red flags:
- The job posting clearly said college grad for the office role, so they lied about the qualifications.
- Your friend got the office job even though she's just HS, so they prioritized connections over your actual degree.
- Supervisor basically admitted you were overqualified but they still gave you the lower cashier role.
So yeah, from the sounds of it they were playing favorites and handing out better jobs based on who knows who, rather than qualifications. That's textbook nepotism/cronyism. Super lame of them.
A few options - You could try talking to the supervisor again, reiterate your degree, and ask why you weren't considered for the office role as posted. Might not change anything but worth a shot.
Or start looking elsewhere, cause who knows what other opportunities they'll pass you over for due to connections. You don't wanna get stuck there if they won't recognize your skills.
For now just do your job well, but keep your options open if they keep treating you like the lesser candidate. That's bullcrap and you deserve a fair shot. Their loss if they don't use your full potential!
Nope the boss got rid of me after days of training.
by the way I noticed again 2 married couples working there its not allowed in work too again he's playing favorites. I asked how is it possible to the woman who has husband working there. She said the boss wanted them both to work there even though its not like unethical for married couple to work in same company. Well I smell favoritism.
Agree I was kinda disappointed she got the job and I dont lol
- but Im so thankful I was let go cuz I dont want that kind of bs
1 married couple*
That's just straight up bullshit! The boss totally screwed you over by hiring you for training just to toss you aside.
Not only are they playing favorites with their buddies for the jobs, but letting married couples work together is shady af too. Like you said, not even allowed by the rules but he bends them for his pals.
I'm honestly not that surprised though - places like that always find a way to take care of their inside crew before anyone else. You're so much better off not working for somebody like that, totally not worth the hassle.
I'd tell the boss exactly what you think of his nepotism bs too before you leave. But who cares, fuck that clown - you'll find something better in no time where they actually value you. Keep your head up luv, this loss is their gain!
That exists everywhere you go. Hard to avoid.
