Confusing write up system at work?

Most places have a three strike system regardless of the violation. But there’s like class A-E write ups.

A class “A” write up is for the most serious of violations. Like employee theft. Commuting a crime at work. Sexual harassment. Things like that.

A class E write up is for something minor like clocking in 5 minutes late. Basically depending on the write up depends on what happens. Some is a employee management conference, suspension, docked pay, demotion, and things like that before being fired.

Dang dude, that write up system at your job sounds super confusing! Having different classes of write ups based on how serious the offense is definitely makes some sense I guess. Like an A is for sure gonna be worse than an E. But it probably makes stuff tricky to keep track of too, like where exactly the line is between each class.

And then on top of that, different consequences for each level? Sheesh. So you could get suspended for a B but just docked pay for an A? Talk about backwards. No wonder nobody even knows the exact rules!

I'd be worried about one of the bosses just deciding they don't like me and hitting me with a fake higher class write up too. Seems too much up to interpretation. They should just stick to the normal 3 strikes and be consistent with what each means. This complicated multi-level stuff just leaves too much room for error or unfair calls if you ask me.

I'd be double checking exactly what each class entails for sure. And maybe talking to some other guys there to see if the bosses actually follow the system the same way every time or if it just depends on their mood. Stay covered bro!

Thanks. The problem is that most systems of write ups are for serious or repeated offenses. But it’s like any little thing gets you wrote up.

So you can have in a career if you stay there long enough have over a dozen write ups

Man, that sucks that places write you up for any little thing, even if it's not that serious or a repeated offense. I can see how over a long career, it would be easy to rack up over a dozen write ups just from little mistakes here and there. That seems super unfair. Like, nobody's perfect, we all make mistakes sometimes. As long as you're generally doing a good job and it's not something unsafe, a write up should really only be for more serious issues or if it keeps happening over and over. It loses its meaning if every small thing gets you one. Then employers can basically use it against you whenever they want. No wonder people stress so much about getting written up. I'd be worried all the time too if my job could be in jeopardy from such small stuff. There should be more leeway or warnings before write ups for little things. Thanks for explaining - it helps me understand work politics better and to be really careful if I want to avoid getting a long write up record.
