Have you ever gotten to quit a job in a satisfying way?

When I was a server, they changed the store manager (the guy in charge) and long story short, he ended up being a jerk, had a very mellow bi-polar kinda thing, our relationship started to sour. So he put me in a section of tables that wasn't likely to make much money even though I told him I wasn't going to work it again.

He made sure to do this when he couldn't be reached so I called my boy who owns a Pizzeria and asked him if he wanted me to come back, he said he could use me right now so when the manager told me I'd "have to talk" to the store manager before I could work again I said

"I'm sorry I can't talk about this any longer, I'm running late for my new job. Have a good night"

Had people calling me for weeks to high five over that 😂

In my early 20’s I worked at my local convenience store. The first year was great because the owners were awesome and flexible but eventually they sold the business. I didn’t lose my job which was nice but the new owner was very emotionally abusive. I made a deal with my parents that if I stay employed I can live with them so in my mind quitting wasn’t an option. The emotional abuse got so bad that people couldn’t work there for longer than a few months. I got to the point where I would sit in my vehicle and cry for 5 minutes before going in to work. Like even when my grandma passed away, the owner made me work while my whole family was mourning. My parents were pissed. Finally my dad said he wanted me to quit that job and work for him until I find something else. So I put in my 2 week notice and I was much happier knowing I’m done in 2 weeks. On my very last day of work, which was a Thursday or Friday, the owner asked me if I will work an extra day on the weekend because they have a wedding to attend. I said no because I’m also going to a wedding. Well it turned out we were both invited to the same wedding and I totally got the stink eye. It was hilarious though! 🤣

I was working for an small ad agency and the owner of the agency wanted me to falsify some information for tax purposes. I refused and told him I wasn't willing to be held legally responsible for tax fraud by knowingly falsifying records. He got really angry with me. Well, that wasn't the only issue in my time there, but it was the straw that broke the camel's back.

So, I printed out my resignation letter on company letterhead, as well as emailing a copy to him, put it in a company envelop, went into his office and handed it to him. I did give two weeks notice. He read it and told me to place notices various places to hire my replacement. Then I told him I would be more than happy to do that but added that I thought it would be best if he didn't have me train my replacement. He asked why and I said "Because I dislike you so much that I doubt I would be able to keep that attitude from showing." He fired me on the spot. As I was leaving I smiled, shook his hand and wished him well. I swear there was smoke coming out his ears!

Here's my interesting job-changing story, which happened several years ago.

My company's parent company issued an urgent order to management to reduce the payroll by 10% in each group. My boss and his boss were out of town, so choosing who would be laid off fell to our group's Vice President, who used random criteria (because he knew nothing about us) to pick me and 2 others to lay off.

When my boss returned, and discovered what happened, he called me at home and apologized. I quickly found a similar job at a competing company, in another city, which required me to commute back and forth each week. I did that for 3 years until I had the opportunity to return to my original job at the company that laid me off. The competing company held a going-away party for me when I left.

Returning to my original company, the Vice President apologized for laying me off, and welcomed me back. That was the company I worked for until I retired, years later. My project team had a retirement lunch for me.

Yeah. I was asked to work over Christmas.. I had already requested and had time off approved. They told me that they were taking back the approval, that if I didn't show up I'd be fired. So, I quit.. That the manager failed to understand is I wrote all of their automation. It was very proprietary. So I changed all of my passwords, disabled all of my automation, and took my final pay. I kept all of the documentation too.

Within a week they were calling me, begging me to come back. I told them I wanted 10x my salary. They told me to F off. Instead they spent hundreds of millions having someone else rebuild what I created, and then a year later they went bankrupt.. And here I am making 10x m that salty where I currently work.

My idiot of a boss at the time who had nothing going on her life but the crappy retail job we were working, told me that I needed to make a choice between school and this job, after I asked her for ONE day off to study after I'd already gotten a sub to cover me! Yeah. This pushed me over the edge along with customers with their attitudes over nothing, being threatened with violence, one of my managers riding the clock until midnight to screw the company...while she constantly knew my ride was waiting for me night after night, having to do freight in the back for hours in 100 degree heat in an unconditioned stock room...on and on...

...so after her little comment and her constantly being rude to me despite me showing up on time everyday, never having any vacations, customers liking me, staff liking me, I called all my co-workers and told them I was quitting. Told them not to answer the phone the next day. Came back after my shift at night with a "Dear John" letter I slipped under the door in which I thanked all my co-workers (who were actually decent people) for our time working together and informed them I would not be back. Next day, the boss blew up my phone with each message more and more unhinged because she couldn't get a hold of staff. She was yelling about how she would ruin my chances of working in this town, and how she knew I said something because she couldn't get a hold of other staff, and how I should NEVER expect a recommendation from her. It. Was. Glorious!

Even better, I already had a new job and the entire retail company folded a month after I left. Like, the entire company. All stores shut down without warning. So literally I saved my own @$$, and a few years later graduated from my University WITH honors. Cheers!

When I was 16 I worked at a supermarket. This one middle aged dude would come in often and be quite rude to staff all the time. He was impatient as fuck, would bitch about -not- getting ID'd and would make inappropriate comments. I was stocking the shelves one day, bent over lining things up and whatever when I feel someone cop a feel of my ass. I flung around and it was him. I went off immediately, he claims it was an accidental brushing but I know I felt a full on cupped squeeze. After me going off at him for what felt like forever he is like "so what if I cupped a feel?" I was so mad. I kneed him in the balls and walked out.

HR ended up getting involved and I could feel it leaning towards me getting fired over it so I just quit. They were protecting him despite there being video evidence. 🙃

That must have felt good ! , in my earlier working years I would have enjoyed a situation like that but I guess fortunately for me I’ve been able to leave jobs in good terms taking other for the better or more rewarded opportunities.

I don't know if I'd call it "satisfying," but I had one job that ended with me calling my boss a prick and getting into a full-blown shouting match with our noses about 3 inches apart. In a way, it was satisfying to stand my ground because I'm usually one to shy away from confrontation, but also quite unpleasant for this very reason. But it was an abusive work environment and I came to find out later that the guy had a reputation in the community for being a jerk. I'm sure the fact that he was a cokehead contributed to it as well.

I told my last boss that I was leaving ahead of time. She tried to get me to stay in various ways and I said no to all of them. I eventually told her that I would work and quit on my own terms and that any holes in scheduling due to me quitting were on her as the boss. Got my new job within the week after leaving that one too.

Ehh I never burn a bridge. Employers have a right to call previous employers and ask if they’d hire you again. If you quit with big show that just puts a red mark on your next application.

I just retired last July. It was a good job that paid well and the bosses treated me well. i felt that it was just time to retire. I feel like I have been on a hamster wheel since I was 17. We get to do so few things in this life on our own terms. I just gave my notice and told them I would stay until we could find a replacement. I left on good terms and felt good about my decision.

I walked out of the job office at midday - my supervisor acting escorted me out - and my higher boss who I'd had a meeting with earlier that same day I'm glad I didn't have to see or interact with ever again - the same acting superior called me as I'm on the train home asking for a letter signed that I resigned - and I sent that.
I was just glad to walk out of there, mid-shift, and with the awareness of my supervisor so they didn't think I'd been kidnapped or anything

Actually, I was fired, and then one of the owners wanted to discuss some things that I allegedly said. I told him that I have no desire to participate in that process. If he wanted to do that, he should have done so before firing me.
