Why is English so WEIRD, swap two letters and VOTE becomes VETO?

This is not meant to be a Political post, but hey, these two words have been heard so much lately, and they are a perfect example of how weird the English language is.

Simply swap two letters and the word VOTE becomes its opposite.

English is probably one if the most complicated languages in the world words thst sound the same but are spelt different ways and may even mean something different.
