Not at all! I managed to achieve an overall band score of 8 in just one month of preparation. My highest score was in speaking, which I found to be the most straightforward component. Remarkably, I accomplished this without the guidance of a teacher, having consciously adopted British English pronunciation back in 2017. Unlike the stereotypical thick Indian accent, my speech felt natural and conversational, as though I were simply engaging with a friendly stranger.
Of course, I experienced some initial nervousness, but I overcame it and pushed through. From my experience, writing numerous essays with a well-structured approach is essential, along with honing your ability to manage time effectively in the reading section. As for the listening module, it’s relatively simple if you can maintain focus and comprehend both British and American accents. In preparation, I completed around 20 practice tests, which I believe was instrumental in my success.
It's not necessarily the "most stressful exam ever." I can imagine it would cause some anxiety in some people.
Having taken the IELTS exam, I found it challenging but manageable with the right preparation. I dedicated about two months to study, focusing on practice tests and improving language skills. Managing stress involved developing a study schedule, practicing mindfulness, and simulating test conditions. It's important to remember that adequate preparation can significantly reduce anxiety.
