No, it's the opposite. You go to the stronger students to gauge if they are "getting it". If the strong student isn't getting it, then the weak student won't, so you need to either elaborate or try a different approach. When I taught in college in 1987-1988, that's what I did. I knew who the good kids were and I'd often look at them. Looking back, I remember professors looking at me (I was a good student) to make sure I wasn't not getting it.
No, they do not. If you are seeing a professor gazing at you, they are probably attracted to you. It's very hard to not look at someone when we are strongly attracted, even knowing that it's unprofessional.
