1 yNever understood it either. They know when they're doing something wrong.
There was an autistic boy who would come in my house and every time he visited would go over to a bird I had mounted and pluck a feather from it. Not only did I get scolded for scolding him, but the little shit would look at me before he did it. And then run. There was definite intent. I finally quit listening to everyone else and punished him. He changed his behavior.

Asker1 yThank you I’m glad that someone understands.

What I find ironic about it is how the majority of people think explaining is the best way to correct an autistic child. But you're trying to explain something to a young person who has difficulty understanding. A slap on the wrist sends a much clearer signal than a 5 minute lecture on why what they did was bad.

I used to know someone that was really autistic! He became an aut teacher.10 Reply
1 yBecause children with autism are not like children who don't have it. There's a reason they've a diagnosis called autism and the other kids don't.

Asker1 yI believe that autistic people know when they are doing is wrong.
- 1 y
Nowhere did I say they didn't know when they do wrong.
Asker1 yPeople don’t seem to think that they oughta be disciplined how are you going to fix a behavior if you allow it?
- 1 y
People don't? Guess everyone I know is fake,
I don't work with a single soul because everyone doesn't think they should be dicipined according to miss anon. Just because you don't discipline them the same way as the average kid - doesn't mean you don't discipline them. That you don't know this, and work with autistic children worries me. Find a new job, hope whatever your place is - gets FULLY restaffed.
Asker1 yGet a new job doing what that’s the only positions they have open are jobs working for special needs children. I live in a small town it is not like I live in a big city that it is easy to find another job just like that. How come live in the reality and stop thinking that a job is going to be easy to do when in reality nobody is going to like everything about their job.
1 yBecause it doesn’t work/backfires and makes the situation worse.

Asker1 yI believe that they can be disciplined people just don’t want to do it.
AI Opinion
Schools often approach discipline for autistic children differently because autism can affect behavior in various ways. Disciplinary actions are usually tailored to meet individual needs, taking into consideration communication challenges, sensory sensitivities, and other unique traits associated with autism. The aim is to provide support and understanding, rather than just punishment, to help them manage their behaviors effectively. This approach aligns with creating a supportive learning environment that focuses on positive reinforcement and understanding individual capabilities, ensuring every child has the opportunity to succeed academically and socially.

Anonymous(25-29)1 yTypical discipline is usually lost on autistic children. There's a reason these kids are put in special ed with teachers who (hopefully) have a basic understanding of autism.

Asker1 yI work with them and still don’t know how to manage them.
Opinion Owner1 yYou probably shouldn't be working with them, then.
Asker1 yWell you go try managing them and come back and tell me a solution then smart ass.
Opinion Owner1 yI know I'm not qualified to work with autistic kids because I don't have the patience for it. I wasn't insulting you, not everyone is able to handle working with special needs kids.
Opinion Owner1 yEducate yourself more on autism. If you still can't handle it in the end, it isn't for you and you should start looking for s new job- a job that you won't suck at.
Asker1 ySays someone who never worked or experienced it before to tell me what to do fuck you. Until it is you doing it then you’ll understand it so shut up about stuff you don’t know about.
Opinion Owner1 yI've never worked with them personally, but I was in special ed and did have a few autistic kids in my class. The kids had a special teacher who would stay with them throughout their school day and they didn't act like you. They weren't as easily irritated like you. And they definitely didn't come on GAG and ask questions like "How come schools don’t discipline autistic children like they do children who are not?"because they were good at their job and already knew the answer to that. Give your job to someone who deserves it.
Asker1 yTrust me other people who are in the field complain and definitely don’t think it is fair either. So if you experience it for yourself than you wouldn’t be saying what you are saying. What am I supposed to do quit and go unemployed it’s not like these other jobs treat you unfairly. Go somewhere else and bitch about how dumb that job is.
Opinion Owner1 yDon't think what's fair? That YOU picked a job working with AUTISTIC kids when you aren't the right person for the job? Goodbye.
Asker1 yAnd of course they are going to seem that they are good at their job because they are at a professional setting. You are supposed to be unprofessional to act different in front of other students.
Opinion Owner1 yAnd I didn't say you should quit your job without having another job lined up. I said you should start looking for a new job. If you're really 20-25, it isn't too late to switch your career. A lot of people do it. But whatever. Keep working a job that you clearly hate and are clearly bad at and continue being miserable until you get fired for losing your shit.
Opinion Owner1 yMuting Q now
Asker1 yJackass I’m 28 and plus where in the hell am I going to get another job at if they don’t have any job openings and second of all it is hard to get a job because they want you to already have experience.
Opinion Owner1 yYou'll have to figure that out when you get fired lmao
Asker1 yYou’re iq is pretty low that’s all I can say because you don’t know shit.
Opinion Owner1 ySo, when people get fired, that's it? They just lose everything and are homeless forever? They can't ever get a new job? And you can't even entertain the idea of trying to get a new job or trying to do better at your current one?
Opinion Owner1 yMaybe try working at a wearhouse for a while. It's easy work, they hire anyone, and you'll have plenty of time to think about what you really want to do with your life.
Opinion Owner1 yBecause working with autistic kids isn't for you lol
Asker1 yStupid ass I don’t have any reason to get fired for because I obey by all the rules. It’s not like I’m going to decide one day to beat the hell out of a retard.
Opinion Owner1 yYou sound like a ticking time bomb but ok lol
Asker1 yNobody in the world is going to like everything about their job this is the real world not land of imaginary where everything is going to be the way that you want it to be.
Asker1 yAnyone who says they don’t have anything about their job they don’t like is full of shit.
- 1 y
You insult the guy by saying "you're iq" instead of the correct "your IQ..." I hope you aren't a teacher. And nobody who refers to children as "retards" should be working with special needs children.
Opinion Owner1 y@Graptemys79 👍
- 1 y
I can't tell what that is.
Opinion Owner1 y@Graptemys79 it's a thumbs up lol
- 1 y
Oh, I thought it might be a finger. I didn't understand why you would do that to my response!
Asker1 y@Graptemys79 yeah go get a life and stay out of other people’s conversations with your nosey ass.
Asker1 y@Graptemys79 and people be calling them retarded they just don’t be saying it in a professional setting they do be calling them retards behind their backs. You both don’t have any sense of what reality is you both live in a fantasy world thinking that every teacher is supposed to be kind and loving when behind close doors yeah they talk shit about their students they all do.
Opinion Owner1 yAssholes convince themselves that everyone else is also an asshole to make themselves feel better about being assholes.
And I can understand parents getting frustrated because they didn't know their child was going to be autistic. But you picked a career knowing you were going to be working closely with special needs kids. You get zero sympathy from me.
Asker1 yYou get zero sympathy from me because I’m not so bummed I’m not going to quit something without having another job. So fuck you at least I have a job and not unemployed lazy ass. It isn’t that easy finding a job there are other people who want the job too. The reason why my position is easy to get because nobody wants it.
- 1 y
I am a teacher. I have worked with autistic students. I have never heard a teacher refer to any student as a "retard." If I had, it would be reported to the principal of the school.
Asker1 y@Graptemys79 did I ever said say retarded at a professional setting? No I said that it is behind closed doors learned how to read.
- 1 y
Having that kind of attitude is going to carry over into the classroom. Their lives are difficult enough, without having an uncaring professional working with them. Please tell me you are not SPED.
Asker1 y@Graptemys79 you are not understanding what I am saying of course you don’t say anything bad about them when you are at school. I’m saying that behind closed doors they do.
Opinion Owner1 yIf you look down on autistic kids that attitude will sooner or later carry over into the classroom. That's what he's saying.
And again. I didn't say to quit your job without finding another one.
I don't know how else we can dumb this down for you. You keep saying we don't get it, but you're the only one who's confused.
- 1 y
The way she writes, I find it hard to believe that she is a teacher.
Opinion Owner1 y@Graptemys79 yeah. She's probably trolling lol
Asker1 y@Graptemys79 you both are damn idiots.
- 1 y
What grade level or subject do you teach?
Asker1 y@Graptemys79 I’m done talking to people who think that life is going to be an easy fix like we live in the land of the wizard of oz or have a fairy godmother that is going to wish away our problems. This is reality yes when you work anywhere people are going to piss you off and I’m pretty sure that I myself piss people off myself.

Asker1 yNothing much you can do with them but send them to the principal or suspend them from school. Nobody can’t go beyond that you can’t kick their asses.
