Why do some people treat autistic people differently?

Some people don’t even want to be their friend and think they are mentally challenged when they are not. How come?

Autistic people may not be intellectually challenged but they are socially challenged in many cases. People who haven't been exposed to it don't understand it. Lazy people don't want to make any extra effort to help an autistic person fit in. Some people are embarrassed by socially awkward people and don't know how to approach the situation. No one provides the average person training or education for these situations.

Autistic people get treated differently because they want to be treated differently. Hence why they label themselves loud and clear as autistic.
If they wanted to be treated the same as everyone else they would keep the autism card to themself

That's a very complex topic.

I have a very intelligent nephew in his mid-20s who's autistic.

We share a similar interest in music performance and in music theory.

I've attempted to engage him in conversation time and time again for many years.
I can never get more than a word or two out of him.

I think it's difficult for most people, me included, to be able to get past the shell or whatever it is that some people with autism seem to have when dealing in social situations.

I'm absolutely no expert on this subject and there may be something I've said above that's not correct, but that's what I think I know about autistic people.

We all have our own crosses to bear in life.

some people feel like autistic do not understand emotions and jokes so avoid you. they don't think you can't do math just you don't understand our emotions and facial expressions.

My only guess is that they don't understand and fear what they don't know.

I treat everyone differently. And the way I treat people depends on how the conversation is going.
