What should I do about the job offer?

I just found out I was hired by a university to be an academic librarian. But I really want to work somewhere else I interviewed for this week but they don't stop doing interviews until the end of the week.

Should I just take the academic librarian job that I know will pay slightly more money but be sort of miserable or go with the job I really want but have no idea if they are even going to hire me until possibly next week.

I don't want to keep the academic library waiting too long on the offer especially when they wanted me to start Friday. I want to make a decision no later than Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.

Just take the job you were hired for. I've learned from experience if they you, "they still have others to interview", they most likely aren't interested in you.

Worst case scenario, if the other job hires you, you can just leave the academic librarian job. They won't like it, but too bad.

But you don't wanna hold out hope, then end up with nothing. Just take the one you were offered.

I really hate this tactic, but there are times when you need to look out for number one. If you don't think you can delay the library job, go ahead and accept it. BUT, follow though with the other job that you really want. If you get the other job, quit the library job.

It might seem unethical but you really do need to look out for number one on this. If you accept/quit the library job it won't really hurt them much. It will be soon enough that their second and third choices should still be available. It's not like they'd have to go through all the application and interview process again.

Keep the only one you've been offered so far, if you're offered the one you prefer you can always change jobs but at least you're guaranteed employment this way.
