i always figured i would work in classical music but i accidentally got into commercial music and i love it. i love the people, i love the recording, i love the touring, i love the appearances, everything. i do complain a lot even about the parts i love, but things can get very tiring very fast especially when even the tiniest bit of stupidity enters the picture. i don't love record company executives, i will say that much, and they bring lots of stupidity to the table

my mother is a top violinist in a symphony orchestra but she's done all sorts of commercial music, i had just never given it a thought for myself. mostly because the training makes you believe there exists nothing else in the world except classical music, they're militant about it (and this is a top conservatory) even though you know better just from listening to music and being around music in your own life

so right now i am what i want to be though people are already talking to me about being a music director, which i will probably want someday but don't know if i want it now

Yes! I can honestly say that I don't have any regrets about what or who I wanted to be and do with my life.
And at age 70 I believe that is saying a lot❣️

I suppose it's about what I expected. Life is hard, but you can cultivate your own meaningful struggle.

There's a few dreams I was able to achieve from my childhood, certainly not all of them though.

No, I wanted to be a Basketball Player, but when I realized I didn't actually like Basketball much, that "dream" went away in my mid teens..

Yeah, pretty much. Some of the nitty gritty details are different than what I'd expected, and not every plan or path works out, but many things have.
