Why do people think souls exist when if they existed they would be more common than anything else on this planet, even grains of sand?

Think about how many species existed at any point, now think about how many individuals existed.

Even if 99.9999999% of them moved on instead of lingering, It would be so many ghosts that they would completly blind you to everything else.

A 3D ocean of the dead on the earth, one so large that it goes well passed the moon, let alone our atmosphere.

And yet no one has proof of even 1 ghost, despite many claiming they not only exist, but can be noticed.

Also think about how most visible species are really just colonies of smaller species. Does each cell in a body get its own ghost? Because then the number explodes to an even more absurd number.

And if not, how can cells still think? If they think why even have a ghost? And at what point does a mass of cells reach a population big enough to have a ghost? and how is it formed it obtained?

What about brain degeneration causing personality changes, lost memories, or poor cognition?
