For me it's about independent thinking, among other things. But the big 5 points that I think describe adulthood are:
1. Independent thinking. To the child that is not an adult this may sound selfish and self-centered but this is so deep. Independent thinking means that YOU have the authority to what you decide to do with your life. This includes the realization that you should NEVER give someone else the responsibility of making you happy. Only you are responsible for that. Luckily!
2. Providing yourself with experiences, health, life and standing up for yourself
3. Knowing how to regulate your emotions and thoughts - which includes being able to (eventually) see emotions and thoughts for what they are: floating clouds passing by - NOT to be taken as inherent truth.
4. Understanding that your own opinion is the most important and always is the most important one (for you!), because who knows you better than youself? And this leads me into the last point:
5. Self-awareness (wich is not to be confused with being self-conscious) of thoughts, emotions, survival/autopilot subconscious patterns and mechanisms, hygiene, physical wellbeing, health, and overall awareness of self.
