Hello, what was your very first job? How did you get it?

My first job was in retail working in Nordstrom's in the swimwear dept. omg lots of messy dressing rooms in the summer. Anyone else work in swimwear?

A friend from high school was working in the other Nordstrom's in my city. I was looking for a long time in 11th grade for work and luckily I got the job with no experience.

MY first job was picking potatoes for a Scientific research lab that was doing the research for companies who made crisps (Potato chips in Uhmerica). I was awesome when they allowed us to use their light vans to go collect particular species of potato from the fields that had been planted in scientifically designated areas (we didn't take all the tatties only the ones that were logged and bagged according to the row (dreel) and position.

We got to taste test the final products too when the boffins had put them through the slicing and cooking. Only added salt but heck what a hoot.

I got my very first job working night shift at a movie cineplex as a custodian.

I was 13 years old at the time and still in elementary school. It was for a contracted mom and pop company that only had 3 employees.

The only reason I landed the job was because the interview was on the phone and my boss who did the interview didn't do the math on how old I was and never realized my age until he picked me up for my first day on the job.

When he picked me up for work the first day I was told "I didn't realize you were so young", too which I simply shrugged, and we never brought it up again.

I did that job for 2 years getting paid under the table. I'd get picked up at 11:00pm and dropped off at home at 7:00am. Then I'd go to school for 8:30am until 3:30pm.

My mom never even realized I had a job until I went into high school and the school started complaining I was sleeping in class.

Shortly after she found out, she waited up for my boss to come and pick me up, yelled at him and ripped his head off, ending that job right there on the spot. lol

p. s. I did have a paper route before that job but in my opinion that wasn't a real job. I also used to mow lawns/shovel snow for cash as a kid but those also were not real jobs, just a side hustle.

Technically my first job was a paper boy.

I was 10yrs. Old and was reading the Sunday comics and they had an advertisement for paper routes. So I contacted the paper and they hired me. Really surprised my parents too that I'd get a job without telling them at 10.

The first hourly job i got in Jr. High was seasonal working summers at the local Amusement Park.

The first year round job I got when I was a junior in high school flippin burgers. And I held that through college.

My first job was working as a Gofer at Enron (yes, THAT Enron). My aunt was HR there, and got me the job. Essentially you are assigned to an office, and anything they need, you "go for" it or do it for them. It could be delivering something from floor to floor, mailing letters, making copies, getting lunch from the cafe. I liked it up until a point. I wanted to make sure I was representing my aunt well, so I became extremely quick and efficient but that meant stamping those 1,000 letters was done in far less time then they anticipated so then they'd be like, okay, just sit and wait for someone to give you a task and I'd be staring at the walls. Thankfully it was only for a summer.

My very first job was a summer job, painting street light poles. My cousin worked for the local electric utility and street lighting was one are of his responsibility. As such, he set up contracts with a local company that maintained the street lights, which included periodic painting, typically during the summer using high school and college kids.

So, he got me hooked up with that company and I spent the summer between graduating high school and starting college, painting street lights with 7 other guys my age. We traveled around the city in a box truck driven by Angelo, an older guy, who managed us.

Well i assume we're not including paper routes, my first job was at a sportsmanship club where the shot trap ( little clay targets get launched from a concrete bunker with a machine you sit the targets on a button up where the shooters are triggers the target ) i got the job through a friend of my dad's who was a member. Was weekends only , we got lunch from inez who ran the lunch counter and made the world's best cinnamon rolls, 1 trap machine up to 5 shooters at once , and we not only launched the target but kept score.

My first job was a patio repair. I was 14 in high-school and my parents were poor. I overheard someone complaining about how they wished all this moss wasn't growing in between the brick paver that was their patio. I spent a week and a half scraping it all clean. Worked my ass off. Still to this day I work for myself doing the things people want done but don't want to do themselves and I exploit the fact I'm willing to do what they are not to make my craft worth more then I'd have ever thought it could be when i was 14... Its 17 years later and I'm still a self employed construction specialist 😉

It was an initiative for school leavers, where you get a job for 2 years, with a special rate of pay and you attended college 1 day a week to build skills in that profession. I worked for the local water authority. I cba to describe everything as it was very varied. I spent one year doing all things technical, and a year doing administration and reception. I did gain a lot of experience there and it built my confidence too.

It was a summer job in a textile factory that was closed for holidays. It involved cleaning out messy stuff, really messy like oil patches and stains. The worst part was where we had to go into small tunnels under the factory floor to clean out dust and textile parts, so small we could only crawl in on our backs. We got a mask and a bag to put dust particles in and that was it. Once in a while, someone came and shone a beam of light with a flashlight and asked if we were OK.

i was 15 and it became legal for me to work in the U. S. and my mom heard of a position at the local community college. i was a library worker. i mainly put up books but that was done in an hour, so i'd just tidy up the library and play some of the games and walk around. they gave me $15/hr for that! now you need a librarian's certification, degree or know someone to get this position and for a few more dollars than i was making 36 years ago!

Repairing and cleaning old appliances usually cleaning out mold and old food making them all shiny and new again. Got paid under the table 5-10$ per appliance and I was 10 when I started it if I'm not mistaken.
